Galileo Galilei demonstrates his first telescope to Venetian lawmakers.
Church notables refused to look through it, many thinking they'd be commiting a sin.

As Galileo muttered to himself as he left the Inquisition:

Eppur si muove(1)" ("And yet it does move")

One of the first "Truthers"... those of us who continue to bear the burden of insight into the events of 9/11 can look to Galileo for strength and fortitude.
