How Long Will The Oil Spew?

According to BP, which has been accused all along of lowballing the amount exploding into the gulf, only 5,000 barrels a day.

Steven Wereley, an associate professor of mechanical engineering at Purdue University, said 14 times more oil was spewing into the sea than the officially estimated 5,000 barrels a day.

That would make 70,000 barrels a day.

BP claims the reservoir that it's coming from holds approximately 50 million barrels. The maximum claim for the reservoir I've found is 1.8 billion barrels.

Using the maximum estimate of the outflow and the minimum estimate of how much oil there is to gush from this blowout, it'll continue for at least 2 years.

Using the maximum estimate of the outflow and the maximum estimate of how much oil there is, it'll continue for 70 years.
