Training Exercise As Bad As The Real Thing

Hospital uses armed man in unannounced drill

"How’s this for an ill-conceived emergency preparedness drill? An off-duty cop pretending to be a terrorist stormed into a hospital intensive care unit brandishing a handgun, which he pointed at nurses while herding them down a corridor and into a room.
There, after harrowing moments, he explained that the whole caper was a training exercise.
The staff at St. Rose Dominican Hospitals-Siena Campus, where the incident took place Monday morning, found the exercise more traumatizing than instructive.
Hospital employees would have been justified in fearing for their lives.
Just last year, Henderson police shot and killed an armed, hostile man in the emergency room. So it would make sense that security and emergency preparedness have been a focus at the hospital.
But in Monday’s incident, which occurred in a unit that houses the hospital’s sickest patients, nurses, patients and their families did not know it was a drill, said Renee Ruiz, organizer of the California Nurses Association, which represents staff at the hospital."

Might Want To Rethink That Nuke Option

Detonating nuclear bomb at BP oil spill site could end all life on planet

"Lately, I’ve heard many talking heads in the news media suggesting that the only way to stop the BP oil leak might be to detonate a nuclear bomb under the leak site.
Before they consider that option, they might want to watch this video of Dr. Gregory Ryskin, Professor of Chemical Engineering at Northwestern University. In the video, Dr. Ryskin explains how a prehistoric methane gas explosion could explain the Permian-Triassic Extinction Event, a mysterious period in Earth history where 95% of all species went extinct.
Given that the
amount of methane gas that is leaking from the BP spill site is at least equal to the amount of oil, it would lead one to believe that there is a huge underground pocket of methane gas buried there. Now, if Dr. Ryskin’s theory is correct, not only would detonating a nuclear bomb near that underground methane pocket end the oil spill, it might end all life on Earth as well."

This crossed my mind earlier in the month as I was reminded about the huge methane deposits under the Caribbean when BP tried that dome foolishness.
I remember reading at some point that sailors in the gulf would encounter vast areas where methane clumps had risen up from the sea floor and you could pick them off the surface.

Zionist Occupied Media

I've never seen a more sickening display of pro thug mentality than MSM stories today. I mean it's vomit inducing how they need to lie in defense of the shitty little terror state. They could at least wipe Israeli cum off their mouths before they open them.
As the passengers on the flotilla were silenced because the ziofascists kidnapped and murdered them, the whoring american media is more than happy to act as megaphones for Israelis to paint themselves as victims and exonerate their despicable behavior.

USA Today - Battle at sea was provoked

"The armada of hate and violence in support of the Hamas terror organization was a premeditated, outrageous provocation," Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon said."

CNN - Israel, Gaza flotilla sponsors blame each other for violence on ship
(headline belies the total propaganda thet follows)

"They deliberately attacked soldiers," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told reporters at a photo op in Ottawa, Canada, with his Canadian counterpart."

ABC - 9 Die as Israelis Halt Aid Flotilla

"When Israeli commandos rappelled onto a flotilla of aid ships that were trying to break its Gaza embargo, they descended into a battle zone that left nine people dead and 30 injured, including several Israeli soldiers."

CBS - Israeli Commandos Storm Aid Flotilla, 9 Killed

"Israel said it opened fire after its commandos were attacked by knives, clubs and live fire from two pistols wrested from soldiers after they rappelled from a helicopter at about 4 a.m. to board one of the vessels."

You don't even need to look at Faux to know where they sit.

Terrorists Storm Gaza Flotilla

This will show the true colors of the 50 or so countries represented by passengers on the ships. In a just world every one of those governments should expel every member of the Israeli embassies, send them packing back to Tel Aviv.
Apparently this was in international waters.

Up to 16 killed as Israeli forces storm aid convoy

"Up to 16 people have been killed when Israeli naval commandos boarded aid ships bound for the Gaza Strip, meeting resistance from pro-Palestinian activists, Israel's Channel 10 television said."

Self Righteous Scorn Gets Tiresome

There's a website that I frequently because it's a mixture of useful information and links along with interesting wild speculation and opinion. It's Sorcha Faal/David Booth at WhatDoesItMean. (main page the last few days seems to be a donation request)

You know, if there's one thing I can't stand with all this internets business, it's snide puffiness and posturing self importance when sniffing about other sites. We have to remember that if there's anything the world wide tubes thing has taught us, it's to use discrimination and discernment in our browsing. It's sort of the ultimate marketplace - if you don't like it don't buy it but don't smear it just because you don't like it. Sites can be quite useful in other ways, like visiting wingnut pages to get a chuckle or catching the latest propaganda in MSM. It's hard for me to understand why people feel the need to trash sites, except to proclaim their self importance by belittling other efforts, by any definition a small minded preoccupation.

WhatDoesItMean is divided into two sections, when it's not groveling for funds, news links and opinion essays that get published every few days. It's the latter that seem to generate the badmouthing. I look forward to them; if people have any brains at all they can decide for themselves what to dismiss and what they resonate with. It might be that the work in deciphering what's bullshit and what might contain kernals of truth is a bit too strenuous to embark on, if that's the case the fault lies with the visitor and not the visited site.

In any case, consider the following.
A month ago WhatDoesItMean ranted about North Korea causing the oil catastrophe in the gulf, in my mind a fairly ludicrous hypothesis, but then these days who the hell knows for certain? It got picked up around the tubes and predictably was trashed by the lofty self righteous as more disinfo from a favorite whipping boy. The reason I'm bringing this up is because there was this passage in that piece:

"This “impossible dilemma” facing Obama is indeed real as the decision he is faced with is either to allow the continuation of this massive oil leak catastrophe to continue for months, or immediately stop it by the only known and proven means possible, the detonation of a thermonuclear device.
Russian Navy atomic experts in these reports state that should Obama choose the “nuclear option” the most viable weapon at his disposal is the United States B83 (Mk-83) strategic thermonuclear bomb having a variable yield (Low Kiloton Range to 1,200 Kilotons) which with its 12 foot length and 18 inch diameter, and weighing just over 2,400 pounds, is readily able to be deployed and detonated by a remote controlled mini-sub.
Should Obama choose the “nuclear option” it appears that he would be supported by the International Court of Justice who on
July 8, 1996 issued an advisory opinion on the use of nuclear weapons stating that they could not conclude definitively on these weapons use in “extreme circumstances” or “self defense”.
On the other hand, if Obama chooses the “nuclear option” it would leave the UN’s nuclear conference in shambles with every Nation in the World having oil rigs off their coasts demanding an equal right to atomic weapons to protect their environment from catastrophes too, including Iran."

Haha, what trash! Good grief, WhtDoesItMean is a pile of shit, what bozo would read that garbage? Wait, what?

Energy expert: Nuking oil leak ‘only thing we can do’

"As the latest effort to plug the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico meets with failure, the idea of nuking the immediate area to seal the oil underground is gaining steam among some energy experts and researchers."

and:

Business Insider - "Next, the so-called "nuclear option" is about to get a lot of attention. In this case, of course, nuclear option is not a euphemism. It's the real idea that the best way to kill this thing is to stick a small nuke in there and bury the well under rubble. Supposedly it's been done in Russia, and by the middle of the coming week, it will be all over cable news, as pundits press The White House hard on whether it's being considered and why not."

Luxury For Empire's Bagmen

Frills, not jobs, filling posh IRS digs

"The $92 million renovations at the IRS compound in Andover will include a reflecting pool, an art gallery, indoor gardens, a 7,000-square-foot cafeteria and an amphitheater, but it remains unclear what new permanent jobs, if any, will come to the center.
The Herald reported last month that the IRS received $80.5 million in stimulus funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for “green upgrades” to the 400,000-square-foot complex.
The IRS already had $11.4 million on hand for the work. During a tour of the 50-year-old federal complex Thursday, the architect called the project “visionary” and said the building “will be relevant 50 years from now.”

Death Squad Mass Murderer: Evidence is 'clear' Iran aids Taliban

"The commander of NATO and U.S. forces in Afghanistan said on Sunday there is "clear evidence" that some Taliban fighters have trained in Iran.
Army Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal told reporters in the Afghan capital that Iran — Afghanistan's western neighbor — has generally assisted the Afghan government in fighting the insurgent group.
"There is, however, clear evidence of Iranian activity — in some cases providing weaponry and training to the Taliban — that is inappropriate," he said. Gen. McChrystal said NATO forces are working to stop both the training and the weapons trafficking."

How the U.S. Funds the Taliban

"Welcome to the wartime contracting bazaar in Afghanistan. It is a virtual carnival of improbable characters and shady connections, with former CIA officials and ex-military officers joining hands with former Taliban and mujahedeen to collect US government funds in the name of the war effort.
In this grotesque carnival, the US military's contractors are forced to pay suspected insurgents to protect American supply routes. It is an accepted fact of the military logistics operation in Afghanistan that the US government funds the very forces American troops are fighting. And it is a deadly irony, because these funds add up to a huge amount of money for the Taliban. "It's a big part of their income," one of the top Afghan government security officials told The Nation in an interview. In fact, US military officials in Kabul estimate that a minimum of 10 percent of the Pentagon's logistics contracts--hundreds of millions of dollars--consists of payments to insurgents."

News networks say access to oil spill ’slowly being strangled off’

"NEW ORLEANS - Media organizations say they are being allowed only limited access to areas impacted by the Gulf oil spill through restrictions on plane and boat traffic that are making it difficult to document the worst spill in U.S. history.
The Associated Press, CBS and others have reported coverage problems because of the restrictions, which officials say are needed to protect wildlife and ensure safe air traffic.
Ted Jackson, a photographer for The Times-Picayune newspaper in New Orleans, said Saturday that access to the spill "is slowly being strangled off."
A CBS news story said one of its reporting teams was threatened with arrest by the Coast Guard and turned back from an oiled beach at the mouth of the Mississippi River. The story said the reporters were told the denial was under "BP's rules."

Israel stations nuclear missile subs off Iran

"Three German-built Israeli submarines equipped with nuclear cruise missiles are to be deployed in the Gulf near the Iranian coastline.
The first has been sent in response to Israeli fears that ballistic missiles developed by Iran, Syria and Hezbollah, a political and military organisation in Lebanon, could hit sites in Israel, including air bases and missile launchers.
The submarines of Flotilla 7 — Dolphin, Tekuma and Leviathan — have visited the Gulf before. But the decision has now been taken to ensure a permanent presence of at least one of the vessels.
The flotilla’s commander, identified only as “Colonel O”, told an Israeli newspaper: “We are an underwater assault force. We’re operating deep and far, very far, from our borders.”
Each of the submarines has a crew of 35 to 50, commanded by a colonel capable of launching a nuclear cruise missile."

"The submarines could be used if Iran continues its programme to produce a nuclear bomb."

Just like that deliberate and disgraceful "wiped off the map" bogus translation, zionist propaganda relies on steadily repeating lies as if they were a priori truths. No matter how many times they're exposed and refuted the lies continue to be sprinkled into stories and blandly stated in media as if they were common knowledge.
Notice how the only person in the story to call it Persian Gulf is an Iranian, otherwise the Times would just continue to call it "the Gulf".

Thousands flee volcanos in Ecuador and Guatemala

"Thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes as volcanos erupted in Guatemala and Ecuador.
In Guatemala, the Pacaya volcano began spewing lava, rocks and debris on Thursday, killing at least two people and injuring more than 50.
In Ecuador, the Tungurahua volcano forced the evacuation of seven villages and shut the airport and schools in Guayaquil, the country's largest city."

Warner Bros. Sued for Pirating Anti-Piracy Technology

"Warner Bros. has been sued by a German technology firm which claims the movie and television production company pirated its anti-piracy technology.
German firm Medien Patent Verwaltung claims that in 2003, it revealed a new kind of anti-piracy technology to Warner Bros. that marks films with specific codes so pirated copies can be traced back to their theaters of origin. But like a great, hilariously-ironic DRM Ouroborus, the company claims that Warner began using the system throughout Europe in 2004 but hasn't actually paid a dime for it.
"We disclosed our anti-piracy technology to Warner Bros. in 2003 at their request, under strict confidentiality, expecting to be treated fairly," the company said in a statement. "Instead, they started using our technology extensively without our permission and without any accounting to us."

Bilderberg 2010 Agenda Leaked

"Veteran Bilderberg researcher and bestselling author Daniel Estulin has once again acquired a copy of the agenda for the annual meeting of the world's power elite. In an exclusive interview with The Corbett Report earlier today, Estulin revealed what the Bilderbergers will be discussing at this year's confab in Sitges, Spain on June 3-6, 2010.
Download an mp3 of the interview by clicking here or listen in the player below:
According to the documents—which Estulin obtained from his sources inside the secretive group—issues to be discussed in this year's formal deliberations are:

1. Will the Euro Survive?
2. Development in Europe: Europe's Exit Strategy...On Hold?
3. Do We Have Institutions to Deal With the World Economy?
4. Greece: Lessons and Forward-looking Strategies
5. NATO and Afghanistan: The Practical Agenda for the Alliance
6. Iran and Russia: Economic and Financial Threats to the Alliance
7. The Consequences of War Against Terrorism
8. The Influence of Domestic Issues on American Foreign Policy
9.The Outlook for Japan's Economy
10. The Future of the U.S. Dollar: Alternative Scenarios

That the Bilderbergers—essentially a talking shop for European and North American power players—are interested in discussing the current meltdown of the European economy should come as no surprise, especially as the group's attendee list includes many of the key financiers and string pullers who helped steer Europe into the crisis in the first place. Past attendees of the meeting include current EU President Herman Van Rompuy who got the job as the first non-elected head of the undemocratic European Union after a special wine and dine session with Bilderberg steering committee members. Last year he , praising the increased role of G20 in dealing with the global financial crisis. Other key Bilderbergers include Jean-Claude Trichet, who, as head of the European Central Bank, was instrumental in helping to craft the current European bailout which itself is designed to incentivize the bankruptcy of Europe. Trichet, too, also recently called for global government to regulate the world economic meltdown that his fellow Bilderbergers helped to create."

America's First All-Christian Prison

"Corrections Concepts Inc.'s effort to establish America's first all-Christian prison in Oklahoma has hit some roadblocks, but it is still continuing to move down the pike.
The last time there was this much excitement in and around Wakita, Oklahoma, was when a tornado nearly destroyed the town. Fortunately, that was in the blockbuster movie Twister. Now, another less ephemeral twister could shake up the town; a proposal from the Dallas, Texas-based Corrections Concepts Inc., to have this sleepy town some 40 miles from the Kansas border become the home to America's first all-Christian prison.
And while the proposal might still be a pipedream for Bill Robinson, the founder of Corrections Concepts Inc., it appears to be inching ever closer to reality.
Robinson recently told the Tulsa (Oklahoma) World that a bonding company had expressed interest in his project -- a private prison administered by Christian officials, attended to by Christian guards, adhering to Christian programming and stocked with Christian prisoners -- and that full funding for it depended upon states agreeing to send 285 prisoners to the facility."

China's Not Fooled By Phony Rush To Korean War

Beijing suspects false flag attack on South Korean corvette

"WMR's intelligence sources in Asia suspect that the March attack on the South Korean Navy anti-submarine warfare (ASW) corvette, the Cheonan, was a false flag attack designed to appear as coming from North Korea.
One of the main purposes for increasing tensions on the Korean peninsula was to apply pressure on Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama to reverse course on moving the U.S. Marine Corps base off Okinawa. Hatoyama has admitted that the tensions over the sinking of the Cheonan played a large part in his decision to allow the U.S. Marines to remain on Okinawa. Hatoyama's decision has resulted in a split in the ruling center-left coalition government, a development welcome in Washington, with Mizuho Fukushima, the Social Democratic Party leader threatening to bolt the coalition over the Okinawa reversal.
The Cheonan was sunk near Baengnyeong Island, a westernmost spot that is far from the South Korean coast, but opposite the North Korean coast. The island is heavily militarized and within artillery fire range of North Korean coastal defenses, which lie across a narrow channel.
The Cheonan, an ASW corvette, was decked out with state-of-the-art sonar, plus it was operating in waters with extensive hydrophone sonar arrays and acoustic underwater sensors. There is no South Korean sonar or audio evidence of a torpedo, submarine or mini-sub in the area. Since there is next to no shipping in the channel, the sea was silent at the time of the sinking.
However, Baengnyeong Island hosts a joint US-South Korea military intelligence base and the US Navy SEALS operate out of the base. In addition, four U.S. Navy ships were in the area, part of the joint U.S-South Korean Exercise Foal Eagle, during the sinking of the Cheonan. An investigation of the suspect torpedo's metallic and chemical fingerprints show it to be of German manufacture. There are suspicions that the US Navy SEALS maintains a sampling of European torpedoes for sake of plausible deniability for false flag attacks. Also, Berlin does not sell torpedoes to North Korea, however, Germany does maintain a close joint submarine and submarine weapons development program with Israel."

Half a million displaced Iraqis face grim future in squalid squatter camps

"The alarming spread of illegal squatter settlements has aid groups fearful of a looming social crisis, one which a senior United Nations official considers “the greatest humanitarian problem facing Iraq”.
Recent reports from two international agencies found that of Iraq’s 1.5 million internally displaced people, or IDPs, at least 500,000 have been forced to dwell in squalid squatter camps without access to health care or public services.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, UNHCR, has recorded a sharp increase in squatters since 2009, and activists are demanding the United States and UN stem the problem before it surges out of control.
“We registered 160,000 [squatters] in Baghdad a year ago and this March the number was up to 260,000. This is only for Baghdad, we haven’t published figures for the whole country yet but it’s at least up from 400,000 to 500,000 for the time being,” Daniel Endres, Iraq representative of UNHCR, said.
Interviews by IWPR confirmed the rising numbers of squatter settlements and found that conditions in the camps continue to deteriorate as numbers swell. Although IDPs who fled their homes due to war and sectarian conflict have long been a problem in Iraq, many who spoke to IWPR said they had sheltered in camps due to extreme poverty and joblessness.
“The problem appears to be growing for a number of new reasons, among them the drought and the many people who have lost their livelihoods. We have also found that many refugees who returned recently from other countries have ended up in camps,” Endres said.
“The guiding principles of defining an IDP are broad: you don’t have to be displaced just by war to be an IDP. It can be any event that has thrown you out of your normal life and created a destitute or unlivable situation.”

NOAA hurricane forecast alarming

"WASHINGTON — The hurricane forecast this year is the most ominous the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has ever issued — "an active to extremely active" season:
• 14 to 23 storms big enough to be named.
• Eight to 14 hurricanes — storms with winds of 74 mph or greater.
• Three to seven major hurricanes — those with winds exceeding 111 mph.
That is the most named storms
NOAA has forecast since it began issuing the outlook in 1998. Only 2005 had more actual named storms: 28, including 15 hurricanes. One of them was Katrina."

I'm sure this will be big news over the next few days.
Most people have bought the soothing pablum concerning the catastrophe in the Caribbean, where the suits get in front of the cameras and look all solemn and proclaim this and that. Not to worry sheep, go back to watching Idol, we're in charge. Operation Top Shelf will do the trick, if not then Junk Hat will certainly work, or maybe Shot Kill or Big Dome or something.
Truth is, the gulf oil volcano is an extinction level event that our psycho Masters of the Universe have downplayed so egregiously that you have to wonder just what dark secrets they have hanging in the closet.
Whatever precipitated this end times disaster, be it greed, incompetence, deliberate population reduction or North Korean submarines, we're about to come face to face with a real life EOTWAWKI.

The poisonous chemicals exploding into gulf waters have already made people sick, and there are reports that oil has been lifted into the atmosphere and came down as precipitation. As it slowly dawns on Foxified mouthbreathers just how deadly the situation actually is, rest assured the suits quite understand the gravity of the disaster and have been making big plans, despite the happy talk and slight tut tutting about loss of tourism.

Here's what's going to happen as I see it.

There's a very real possibility that a storm the size of a hurricane will drag the ocean of submerged poison to the surface and combine it with furious wind and sea spray. This scenario has the potential of effectively killing most life along the Gulf Coast wherever the storm tracks, yet a good majority of numbnuts will still be too preoccupied with Dancing with the Stars and Lindsay Lohan to care much when the first one hits, especially those some miles inland. Because after all the propaganda and failure of the media to report the truth, and because something like this has never happened before, what do you want on your pizza?

The resulting disaster will stun the world.

It won't be the same after that. It's very possible that depending on where the next hurricane hits, whether it's a natural path or steered around by HAARP of the Kali Yuga, millions or probably tens of millions will flee for their lives after being scared to death by what happened the first time around. Hard to say if the thousands of square miles will ever be habitable again in our lifetimes, or will grow even a blade of grass, but it's a given that the chaotic exodus will be a monstrous calamity, with a wee chance it was foreseen in advance by our Keepers and Masters.

With all the potential shitstorms out there now we'd be beyond stupid not to prepare the best we can for survival, but gulf residents better have Plans A, B and C mapped out, preferably situated somewhere north of the 35th parallel.

How Bad Is It In China?

Nets slung around Apple factories to deter suicidal employees

"SHANGHAI: Protesters have made a traditional Chinese funeral offering to the dead at the headquarters of Foxconn, the makers of Apple's iPad, after the 11th suicide attempt - nine of them successful - at the company's factories so far this year.
Li Hai, a 19-year-old man from Hunan province, fell to his death from the roof of a dormitory building at Foxconn's Longhua factory on Tuesday, leaving the world's largest electronics manufacturer in crisis.
The spate of suicides at Foxconn has highlighted concerns over working conditions inside the giant Longhua factory, where 300,000 workers assemble goods for clients including Apple, Sony, Nintendo, Dell and Nokia. The death comes as Apple, which has not commented, prepares to launch the iPad in Australia."
"The latest death came a day after Foxconn admitted it had paid ''insufficient attention'' to the wellbeing of workers and promised to hire 2000 therapists."
''We are not a sweatshop,'' said Foxconn's founder."

Corrupt Census For A Filthy Government

Census workers can enter your apartment in your absence

"Thousands of census workers, including many temporary employees, are fanning out across America to gather information on the citizenry. This is a process that takes place not only every decade in order to complete the constitutionally-mandated census; but also as part of the continuing “American Community Survey” conducted by the Census Bureau on a regular basis year in and year out.
What many Americans don’t realize, is that census workers — from the head of the Bureau and the Secretary of Commerce (its parent agency) down to the lowliest and newest Census employee — are empowered under federal law to actually demand access to any apartment or any other type of home or room that is rented out, in order to count persons in the abode and for “the collection of statistics.” If the landlord of such apartment or other leased premises refuses to grant the government worker access to your living quarters, whether you are present or not, the landlord can be fined $500.00.
That’s right — not only can citizens be fined if they fail to answer the increasingly intrusive questions asked of them by the federal government under the guise of simply counting the number of people in the country; but a landlord must give them access to your apartment whether you’re there or not, in order to gather whatever “statistics” the law permits."

Two more Census workers blow the whistle

"Last week, one of the millions of workers hired by Census 2010 to parade around the country counting Americans blew the whistle on some statistical tricks.
The worker, Naomi Cohn, told The Post that she was hired and fired a number of times by Census. Each time she was hired back, it seems, Census was able to report the creation of a new job to the Labor Department."
"Each month Census gives Labor a figure on the number of workers it has hired. That figure goes into the closely followed monthly employment report Labor provides. For the past two months the hiring by Census has made up a good portion of the new jobs.
Labor doesn't check the Census hiring figure or whether the jobs are actually new or recycled. It considers a new job to have been created if someone is hired to work at least one hour a month.
One hour! A month! So, if a worker is terminated after only one hour and another is hired in her place, then a second new job can apparently be reported to Labor . (I've been unable to get Census to explain this to me.)
Here's a note from a Census worker -- this one from Manhattan:
"John: I am on my fourth rehire with the 2010 Census.
"I have been hired, trained for a week, given a few hours of work, then laid off. So my unemployed self now counts for four new jobs.
"I have been paid more to train all four times than I have been paid to actually produce results. These are my tax dollars and your tax dollars at work."

"God Made Men But Samuel Colt Made Them Equal"

The Gun is Civilization

"Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. If you want me to do something for you, you have a choice of either convincing me via argument, or force me to do your bidding under threat of force. Every human interaction falls into one of those two categories, without exception. Reason or force, that’s it.
In a truly moral and civilized society, people exclusively interact through persuasion. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.
When I carry a gun, you cannot deal with me by force. You have to use reason and try to persuade me, because I have a way to negate your threat or employment of force.
The gun is the only personal weapon that puts a 100-pound woman on equal footing with a 220-pound mugger, a 75-year old retiree on equal footing with a 19-year old gang banger, and a single guy on equal footing with a carload of drunk guys with baseball bats. The gun removes the disparity in physical strength, size, or numbers between a potential attacker and a defender.
There are plenty of people who consider the gun as the source of bad force equations. These are the people who think that we’d be more civilized if all guns were removed from society, because a firearm makes it easier for a [armed] mugger to do his job. That, of course, is only true if the mugger’s potential victims are mostly disarmed either by choice or by legislative fiat–it has no validity when most of a mugger’s potential marks are armed.
People who argue for the banning of arms ask for automatic rule by the young, the strong, and the many, and that’s the exact opposite of a civilized society. A mugger, even an armed one, can only make a successful living in a society where the state has granted him a force monopoly.
Then there’s the argument that the gun makes confrontations lethal that otherwise would only result in injury. This argument is fallacious in several ways. Without guns involved, confrontations are won by the physically superior party inflicting overwhelming injury on the loser. People who think that fists, bats, sticks, or stones don’t constitute lethal force watch too much TV, where people take beatings and come out of it with a bloody lip at worst. The fact that the gun makes lethal force easier works solely in favor of the weaker defender, not the stronger attacker. If both are armed, the field is level.
The gun is the only weapon that’s as lethal in the hands of an octogenarian as it is in the hands of a weight lifter. It simply wouldn’t work as well as a force equalizer if it wasn’t both lethal and easily employable.
When I carry a gun, I don’t do so because I am looking for a fight, but because I’m looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don’t carry it because I’m afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn’t limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would do so by force. It removes force from the equation… and that’s why carrying a gun is a civilized act."

I've carried a gun for over twenty years, and it's so much a part of my routine that I don't even think about it. I can't estimate how many times I strap myself when I venture out the front door and never once have a thought cross my mind that there's a pistol on my hip until I change clothes when I come home. Like a pen in my pocket or a card in my wallet, it's there in case it's needed. People who have no experience with guns, or who are afraid of them, cannot understand this, and more's the pity.

It's Possible That The Only Way To Get To Europe Soon Is By Slow Boat Through Oily Waters

an April 17 NASA image shows the Eyjafjallajokull volcano to the west and Myrdalsjokull ice cap, beneath which slumbers the mighty Katla volcano, to the east.

"A second, much larger volcano in Iceland is showing signs that it may be about to erupt, scientists have warned.
Since the start of the Eyjafjallajökull eruption, which caused cancellations of thousands of flights in Europe because of a giant ash cloud, there has been much speculation about neighboring Katla.
An initial research paper by the University College of London Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction said: "Analysis of the seismic energy released around Katla over the last decade or so is interpreted as providing evidence of a rising ... intrusive magma body on the western flank of the volcano."
""Earlier seismic energy release at Katla is associated with the inflation of the volcano, which indicates it is close to failure, although this does not appear to be linked to seismicity around Eyjafjallajökull," it added.
"We conclude that given the high frequency of Katla activity, an eruption in the short term is a strong possibility," the report said. "It is likely to be preceded by new earthquake activity. Presently there is no unusual seismicity under Katla."
Icelandic President Ólafur Grímsson has warned governments around Europe that a significant eruption at the volcano is close. "We [Iceland] have prepared ... it is high time for European governments and airline authorities all over Europe and the world to start planning for the eventual Katla eruption," he said."

A Lose-Lose Situation For The Murderous Gaza Siege

Israel to stop Gaza aid ships

"Israel says it will prevent, if necessary by force, a nine-ship flotilla of peace activists and humanitarian aid from reaching the Gaza Strip.
The Freedom Flotilla, is carrying around 700 pro-Palestinian activists from various countries, as well as 10,000 tonnes of aid.
It is by far the largest fleet of aid to try to reach Gaza since Israel imposed its siege on the coastal territory in 2007.
In accordance with the directions of the Israeli government, the Israel Defence Forces and the Israeli Navy are preparing to prevent the flotilla from reaching the Gaza shore," a military source said on Thursday."

This is a serious dilemma for the ziofascists. They absolutely cannot allow the ships to dock at the Gaza port because that would mean their blockade and siege of the Gaza strip is porous and will encourage more attempts to deliver aid to the Palestinians. Way too much a threat of a good example.
But any act of piracy and force will certainly be recorded for everyone to understand the brutal nature of the zionist regime in their enslavement of one and a half million people.

But as usual for the Israeli psychopaths, it's all about them, at least according to their frantic attempts at PR.
Some last minute attempt at sideshow theatrics in blunting the purpose of the flotilla failed. An Israeli soldier has been held by Hamas for several years and his family offered to "mediate with the Israeli government" for docking rights if the incoming activists pressured Hamas about his confinement. Funny how the media makes sure we know his name and everything about this one IDF soldier, and usually says zero about the over 7000 Palestinians locked away in Israeli prisons.

After weeks of sobbing how the aid convoy was a "provocation and breach of Israeli law", yesterday the fascists finally allowed what they were going to do. They are going to board and forcibly arrest all involved and jail them at Ashdod in Israel.
But this is going to expose the raw truth about Israeli efforts to keep the Palestinians in abject misery, so the propaganda machine goes into high gear. The IDF will embed their own journalists aboard their navy ships to flood the media with sympathetic news reports. We're told there was no reason to bring aid by sea; Gaza is stable and secure. It's an "armada", not an aid convoy. "Netanyahu spokesman: They're the opposite of human rights activists". Besides, all the thousands of tons of supplies aren't needed because the kindly Israelis allow aid convoys with the same stuff by land. What are you talking about - 'Shops all over Gaza are bursting with goods'. Women soldiers all dressed in white may "give the activists letters" addressed to that single Israeli soldier mentioned above, "a collection of rockets that had been fired at the Sderot area from Gaza (may) be put on display at Ashdod Port for the activists and foreign media to see."
Pay no attention to those fat and malcontent Palestinians, dammit, just pay attention to our grandstanding pity ploys.

Underscoring the seriousness of the situation is the nature of the incoming convoy. There are activists and officials from some fifty countries among the seven to eight hundred participants, meaning a truly universal disgust about Gaza's manufactured misery. The biggest danger to Israel and their four year hideous onslaught on Gaza is the presense of Turkish ships and citizens. Turkey is a member of NATO, any attack on on NATO members is an attack on the entire organization. Since Israel has no rights whatsoever in enforcing an arbitrary embargo on Gaza's territorial waters, every action they take against the convoy is illegal piracy.

Just A Trickle, Honest

Civil fine in Gulf spill could be $4,300 a barrel

"NEW YORK, May 25 (Reuters) - Just how many barrels of oil are gushing into the Gulf of Mexico from the Deepwater Horizon spill is a billion dollar question with implications that go beyond the environment. It could also help determine how much BP and others end up paying for the disaster.
A clause buried deep in the U.S. Clean Water Act may expose BP and others to civil fines that aren't limited to any finite cap -- unlike a $75 million limit on compensation for economic damages. The Act allows the government to seek civil penalties in court for every drop of oil that spills into U.S. navigable waters, including the area of BP's leaking well.
As a result, the U.S. government could seek to fine BP or others up to $4,300 for every barrel leaked into the U.S. Gulf, according to legal experts and official documents.
So far, analysts and experts calculating potential oil spill liabilities have mostly concentrated on the cost of the clean-up and compensation for economic damages to affected parties. Some have also discussed criminal liabilities.
But the potential for civil fines has received scant attention -- and they could add up very quickly, depending on how agressive the U.S. government is in pursuing them.
The threat of hefty fines underscores the importance of quantifying how much oil is pouring into the Gulf. As BP seeks to staunch the leak that has now been gushing for at least 33 days, it has estimated a spill rate of 5,000 barrels per day. But some experts say the volume -- and hence the fines -- could be more than 10 times higher."

Actually the estimates range far more than even that, especially after what seems to be a serious deterioration of the seabed.
Reuters has since disappeared the original story, and BP has severed the spillcam feed.

Al Qaeda, The Evil, War-On-Terror Causing, Hate-Our-Freedom.... Saudi Royals

Saudi King slams intelligence leak

"The King of Saudi Arabia has strongly criticized the country's intelligence officials for disclosing a secret document, which shows Riyadh has links with terrorist activities carried out by al-Qaeda in Iraq.
According to a report by Iraq's Buratha news agency on Friday, King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz ordered a special committee to investigate the intelligence leak and inform him about those liable in the case.
Some 37 members of Saudi's intelligence service, accused of being behind the leakage of the confidential document, were also reported to have been arrested.
The condemnation by the Saudi monarch comes as the Iraqi news agency disclosed the amount of money transferred by Saudi government officials to al-Qaeda in Iraq.
Saudi officials are also reported to send explosives and weapons to the terrorist groups.
Meanwhile, Secretary General of the Saudi National Security Council Prince Bandar Bin Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz is said to be the main guilty behind the case.
The report came as earlier last week, Saudi army officer Abdullah al-Qahtani was arrested in Iraq over charges of planning a terrorist attack during the upcoming FIFA World Cup in South Africa. The Saudi national entered Iraq in 2004 and was involved in militant operations carried out by al-Qaeda."

The whole "Al Qaeda" stupidity has always been and remains a massive psyop. Anyone who talks seriously about it is a complete and utter fool or is in on the con.

And about the Taliban, who morphed into our raison de guerre in Afghanistan while no one was looking:

"It’s near-impossible to find anyone in Afghanistan who doesn’t believe the US are funding the Taliban: and it’s the highly educated Afghan professionals, those employed by ISAF, USAID, international media organizations – and even advising US diplomats – who seem the most convinced,” reports the Guardian today. “The US has an interest in prolonging the conflict so as to stay in Afghanistan for the long term,” said one Afghan.
It does not take a lot of research to prove the Taliban — and al-Qaeda — were fabricated by the CIA in league with Pakistani and Saudi Arabian intelligence.
Pakistani president Asif Ali Zardari said the Taliban was created by CIA and ISI. Naturally, this story was all but ignored by the corporate media in the U.S."

CIA unit's wacky idea: Depict Saddam as gay

"During planning for the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the CIA's Iraq Operations Group kicked around a number of ideas for discrediting Saddam Hussein in the eyes of his people.
One was to create a video purporting to show the Iraqi dictator having sex with a teenage boy, according to two former CIA officials familiar with the project.
“It would look like it was taken by a hidden camera,” said one of the former officials. “Very grainy, like it was a secret videotaping of a sex session.”
The idea was to then “flood Iraq with the videos,” the former official said.
Another idea was to interrupt Iraqi television programming with a fake special news bulletin. An actor playing Hussein would announce that he was stepping down in favor of his (much-reviled) son Uday.
“I’m sure you will throw your support behind His Excellency Uday,” the fake Hussein would intone.
The spy agency’s Office of Technical Services collaborated on the ideas, which also included inserting fake “crawls” -- messages at the bottom of the screen -- into Iraqi newscasts.
The agency actually did make a video purporting to show Osama bin Laden and his cronies sitting around a campfire swigging bottles of liquor and savoring their conquests with boys, one of the former CIA officers recalled, chuckling at the memory. The actors were drawn from “some of us darker-skinned employees,” he said.

Eventually, “things ground to a halt,” the other former officer said, because no one could come to agreement on the projects.
They also faced strong opposition from James Pavitt, then head of the agency’s Operations Division, and his deputy, Hugh Turner, who “kept throwing darts at it.”
The ideas were patently ridiculous, said the other former agency officer.
“They came from people whose careers were spent in Latin America or East Asia” and didn’t understand the cultural nuances of the region.
“Saddam playing with boys would have no resonance in the Middle East -- nobody cares,” agreed a third former CIA official with extensive experience in the region. “Trying to mount such a campaign would show a total misunderstanding of the target. We always mistake our own taboos as universal when, in fact, they are just our taboos.”

Those idiots probably thought diddling little boys was an appropriate smear because of their fears about their own activities being exposed.

Busy,busy little spook things.

Tough Luck If You Get Handed Counterfeit Money

It's your fault and you lose, even if you don't get arrested.

Customer stuck with counterfeit money from the post office

"After cashing a postal money order, David Lipin tried using one of the eight $100 bills at the gas station and was nearly arrested. Even the Secret Service couldn't help him replace the bogus bills.
A business inadvertently gives you counterfeit money — are you stuck with it? In most cases, yes. But what if that business happens to be a branch of the federal government?
Los Angeles resident David Lipin found himself asking this question the other day after he cashed a $1,000 Postal Service money order at a West Hollywood post office.
He said the postal worker handed him 10 $20 bills and eight $100 bills.
Lipin, 43, said he then stopped at a nearby gas station to fill his tank. He tried to pay with one of his new $100 bills.
"The clerk took a close look at it and said it was fake," Lipin told me. "Then she looked at some of the other $100 bills. She said they were fake too, and she called the police."
Alarmed, Lipin phoned a lawyer friend. At his friend's urging, he too called the Los Angeles Police Department to report that he'd been given bogus bills. "I wanted it very clear that I was a victim and not someone trying to pawn off some counterfeit dollars," Lipin said.
The cops arrived at the gas station and inspected the cash. They shook their heads.
"The police said the $100 bills were actually $5 bills that had been bleached and altered," Lipin recalled. "They showed me how you could hold them up to the light and see Abraham Lincoln's face. All eight turned out to be counterfeit."
So now what? The police took a report but said they couldn't do anything. They suggested that Lipin try the L.A. County Sheriff's Department, which serves West Hollywood.
A sheriff's deputy also said they couldn't do much and suggested he try the Secret Service. So did the post office when Lipin returned to the same branch that had given him the funny money."

At a place where I worked someone brought in a bogus fifty one time. That he just got from a bank.

Over $100 For A family Of Four At The Movies?

Movie Tickets Reach the $20 Mark

"For the first time, a major Hollywood film will hit the $20 threshold at the box office, as movie-theater owners test the public's ability to absorb ever higher ticket prices.
Several theaters will charge $20 per adult ticket to IMAX showings of the animated 3-D family film "Shrek Forever After," the fourth "Shrek" installment from DreamWorks Animation. The theaters include the AMC theater in Manhattan's Kips Bay neighborhood, AMC Loews 34, AMC Loews Lincoln Square and AMC Empire 42nd Street.
The increases weren't officially announced, but were reflected in prices posted Wednesday on movie-ticketing Web sites such as Fandango.com and tracked by BTIG LLC media analyst Richard Greenfield.
"With the state of the economy remaining questionable, we worry pricing is simply moving up too quickly," cautioned Mr. Greenfield in a research blog post, adding that he was especially concerned about how quickly children's ticket prices are increasing. "The danger is scaring consumers away from the movie theaters."
This weekend's price increase come less than eight weeks after theater operators instituted some of the steepest hikes in a decade. Those increases in late March—in some cases of as much as 26%—varied theater to theater and focused on 3-D and IMAX showings of another DreamWorks Animation title, "How to Train Your Dragon." The same AMC theater in Manhattan charged $19.50 for an IMAX showing of "Dragon."

Georgian President Orders Private Jet with Catapult System

"The Georgian opposition accused President Mikhail Saakashvili of squandering state funds for purchasing a private jet equipped with one-seat catapult. Saakashvili is also accused of other spending which does not correspond to his activities as the president.

“The president once promised to use only common passenger planes. Now he spends enormous funds on his own comfort, although he continues talking about the crisis and the problems of the population,” Georgian opposition activist Iosif Shatberashvili said.
Mikhail Saakashvili purchased a Challenger-type plane for $56 million on the funds from the state budget. The Georgian president also ordered to equip his plane with one-seat catapult system evaluated at $7 million.
“The president was frightened with what happened to late Polish President Lech Kaczynski and decided to have a catapult in his plane. Now he can sleep well,” Mr. Shatberashvili said."

Pentagon: Number of Troops in Afghanistan Passes Iraq

"Pentagon officials announced today that for the first time since the 2003 invasion of Iraq, there are more troops in Afghanistan than Iraq, officially making Afghanistan the ‘Big War’ and Iraq ‘that other war.’"
"Indeed, were it not for the endless surges into Afghanistan this day might never have come at all, as 92,000 troops remain in Iraq and the numbers are still not dropping in any sort of serious way. Rather Obama started with only 30,000 troops in Afghanistan but is rapidly approaching 100,000, with more expected all the time."

FoxNews.com edits out applause during Obama’s West Point speech.

"In his commencement address to graduating West Point cadets on Saturday, the President outlined his upcoming national security strategy that is focused on international cooperation to meet the nation’s security challenges. He also praised American troops for their performance in Iraq. “A lesser Army might have seen its spirit broken,” he said, adding that “through their competence and creativity and courage, we are poised to end our combat mission in Iraq this summer.” At that point, cadets and the audience applauded for at least 12 seconds (starting at roughly the 10:24 mark here). However, as Michael Moore observed, video from the speech on FoxNews.com edits out that applause entirely, making it appear as if Obama is bizarrely staring silently for a long period of time. The audio is cut (starting at the 0:44 mark) for the 12 seconds of applause, and then skips to another part of the speech. Watch it (the first clip is from FoxNews.com, the second clip is from WhiteHouse.gov)"

"Media Matters’ Jamison Foser asks, “Now, maybe Fox didn’t intentionally remove the audience applause. Maybe Fox’s video used a direct feed from Obama’s microphone, and it simply didn’t pick up audience noise. But if Fox didn’t intentionally try to make Obama look silly, why did it choose a 2-minute clip — out of a 32-minute speech — that portrayed Obama looking silently around the room, seemingly for no reason?”

Terror State Will Face A Huge Problem In A Few Days

"Three ships carrying Turkish activists have set off from Turkey to Gaza on Saturday, the biggest effort by international aid groups to break the Israeli siege on the Gaza Strip. The biggest of the nine ships from Istanbul is heading to the south western city of Antalya where two other Turkish ships will be waiting to join the convoy. The seaport was overwhelmed by thousands of well-wishers, who had come to show their support for the people of Gaza. The three ships will then travel to the waters off Athens and Crete to rendezvous with the other six, before making the four-day journey to Gaza. The second ship to join the Freedom Flotilla en route to Gaza left Istanbul Saturday afternoon, joining eight other boats from three countries carrying 10,000 tons of aid for Gaza's residents, supplies embargoed by Israel.

A statement issued by the Freedom Flotilla's organizers said the latest ship is sponsored by the Turkish humanitarian organization or IHH and will carry 600 passengers to Gaza as part of the "blockade busting" flotilla.Boats will meet in the Mediterranean, then turn toward Gaza to arrive at its beseiged slice of beachfront by the end of May."

Gazans have been busy preparing the port for the flotilla's arrival, deepening the harbor and using rubble from bombed out buildings as construction material. This is by far the biggest operation operation yet to try to break the murderous blockade.

Israel has vowed to stop the fleet from reaching Gaza, and foreign ministry officials told ambassadors from some of the forty countries involved not to try it. Here's where it gets sticky. The fascists absolutely cannot allow the siege of Gaza to be lifted because of the threat of a good example. Boats that have tried before have been fired upon, rammed and boarded, and participants have spent a week imprisoned. But the big problem the Israelis face this time is that some of the ships are from a NATO country, and article 5 in the NATO charter states in no uncertain terms an attack on one member is an attack on them all.

Israel has been preparing for this for some time with a large naval force off the Gazan coast. I'm guessing they'll forcefully turn the flotilla away, public outcry be damned, because when it comes to the US's bestest little terror buddy, NATO comes in a distant second, and Uncle Sam will cover for them. At the same time expect some very ugly diversions somewhere in the world that takes the spotlight off the zionist snitfest and allows corrupted media to turn their attention someplace other than the suffering Palestinians in Gaza.

Framing Some Patsies Yet Again

S. Korea Blames North for Attack on Warship

Lies about the Cheonan

flashback - German Paper Reports CIA Counterfeiting US Currency

"The German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung is reporting that the CIA may be counterfeiting $50 and $100 bills to avoid congressional oversight of covert operations, while blaming the forgeries on North Korea."

flashback - U.K., not North Korea, source of DDOS attacks, researcher says

"The U.K. was the likely source of a series of attacks last week that took down popular Web sites in the U.S. and South Korea, according to an analysis performed by a Vietnamese computer security analyst.
The results contradict assertions made by some in the U.S. and South Korean governments that North Korea was behind the attack. Security analysts had been skeptical of the claims, which were reportedly made in off-the-record briefings and for which proof was never delivered."

Sinking of South Korean ship was a false flag operation

"So a South Korean warship gets hit with a German torpedo and sinks. Conveniently North Korea gets blamed, even though they deny it and are being refused access to the “evidence”.
Well wouldn’t ya know it? As a result of the Korean “incident”, Hatoyama has suddenly decided to allow the U.S. to keep a key military base in Japan despite getting elected on a promise to force its closure.
These dots aren’t very difficult to connect."

Now's The Chance To Actually Buy Their Shit

"A thriving trade in Holocaust artefacts from the millions of Jews killed by the Nazis is outraging Jewish groups worldwide.
Internet sales of the yellow stars Jews were forced to wear, dolls allegedly cuddled by children in death camps like Auschwitz and the paper money used in ghettos in Poland are part of the latest craze for militaria collectors.
Earlier this month, a curiosity shop in Montreal, Canada, was condemned by Jewish groups for selling a bar of soap allegedly made from the fat of holocaust victims.

The beige bar of soap, inscribed with a swastika, was displayed in a glass case with a card that said 'Poland 1940'.
The store owner, Abraham Botines - himself Jewish - claimed the soap was 'made out of people... the fat of people' and said he believed it was important to display and sell such items to 'remember the Holocaust'.
Alice Herscovitch, director of Montreal's Holocaust Centre, said: 'The sale of objects which glorify Nazis and hatred, to me, do nothing.
'They certainly don't help us remember. This is disgusting.
'These Holocaust items, they should not be out there in a promotional, sales kind of way.'
The bar of soap - which is likely to be a fake as postwar research showed the Nazis did not make soap from death camp victims - is one of thousands of sought-after Holocaust-related items for collectors."

How Long Will The Oil Spew?

According to BP, which has been accused all along of lowballing the amount exploding into the gulf, only 5,000 barrels a day.

Steven Wereley, an associate professor of mechanical engineering at Purdue University, said 14 times more oil was spewing into the sea than the officially estimated 5,000 barrels a day.

That would make 70,000 barrels a day.

BP claims the reservoir that it's coming from holds approximately 50 million barrels. The maximum claim for the reservoir I've found is 1.8 billion barrels.

Using the maximum estimate of the outflow and the minimum estimate of how much oil there is to gush from this blowout, it'll continue for at least 2 years.

Using the maximum estimate of the outflow and the maximum estimate of how much oil there is, it'll continue for 70 years.

Israelis Posing As Militants Attack And Burn Gaza Kids' Camp

Radical muslims are being blamed in the media, but no one takes responsibility. Why are we supposed to believe people would do this to themselves?
Again, qui bono?

Gaza children's camp destroyed

"Dozens of masked men have broken into a UN-run Gaza summer camp for children and set it on fire, after beating up the guard and destroying the plastic tents.
The men blocked Gaza Strip's main coastal highway on Sunday before destroying the facility, one of the largest of several summer camps across the occupied Palestinian territory run by UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).
"The militants gave the guard three bullets and a letter warning the UN to stop having summer camps like these," Al Jazeera's Nicole Johston, reporting from Gaza, said.
John Ging, UNRWA's Gaza director, said: "UNRWA will not be intimidated by these attacks. UNRWA will repair this location."
He said that the attack was carried out by people with an "extremist mentality" and vowed to continue his agency's work in Gaza."

"Our correspondent said that although this was the first time the camp had been attacked, there was concern that parents may not send their children to the camp due to safety concerns.
"Usually around 250,000 children attend this camp over summer. This one is the biggest of about four in Gaza," she said."

Monsters who do this to others are the ones who'll attack a childrens' camp.

Palestinians kept in cages before going to work

"People are in these cages for up to 4 hours a day. So nearly one day a week they are in a cage. Thousands of people have to wait in line for hours on their way to work. This is the line leading to the checkpoint itself. Inside the checkpoint they will have to go through additional checks and wait once more in long lines."

Bending The Facts To Fit The Message

Media is screaming about the North Koreans. Actually, Hillary Clinton serves a valuable function for us - anything she utters, believe the opposite. And this is what came out of her piehole the last couple days:

Clinton pushes for North Korea sanctions over ship's sinking

More than any other fascist mouthpiece, she, in her role as secretary of state, gives us an indication what the empire wants us to believe to set the stage for what they intend to do. And apparently, brinkmanship in east asia or all out war with North Korea is being planned, so we're to believe the Hermit Kingdom sank the Cheonan in March.
Don't ever bother asking qui bono, simply believe what you're told.
We're told this is the reason the North Koreans torpedoed and sank the South Korean warship:

U.S. Implicates North Korean Leader in Attack

"A new American intelligence analysis of a deadly torpedo attack on a South Korean warship concludes that Kim Jong-il, the ailing leader of North Korea, must have authorized the torpedo assault, according to senior American officials who cautioned that the assessment was based on their sense of the political dynamics there rather than hard evidence.
The officials said they were increasingly convinced that Mr. Kim ordered the sinking of the ship, the Cheonan, to help secure the succession of his youngest son."

Over two weeks ago this tidbit hit the wires, although it immediately was given the necessary spin to blame North Korea:

Probe concludes torpedo sank South Korea ship

"The metallic debris and chemical residue appear to be consistent with a type of torpedo made in Germany, indicating the North may have been trying to disguise its involvement by avoiding arms made by allies China and Russia, Yonhap quoted the official as saying."

Aside from Germany, who actually has German submarines and armaments?

Israel gets two more German submarines

"Including the two new ones, Israel has five German submarines -- the most expensive weapon platforms in Israel's arsenal."

Israeli subs passing through the Suez canal? No problem, says Egypt.

Florida officials hope oil spill fears won't keep tourists away

"Officials in Panama City, Florida, have beaten construction delays, permit problems and the ever-present threat of hurricanes to arrive at this day: a new airport that will open the region to the world and bring in planeloads of tourism dollars.
But as regular air service begins Sunday, authorities never thought they'd have to contend with a new threat: an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico that continues to gush thousands of gallons of crude every day.
"We've been getting calls ever since the oil spill occurred," said Dan Rowe of the Panama City Visitors' Bureau. "You know, wondering about their vacation plans."
Tourism, Rowe said, is the largest industry in Panama City. The $318-million Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport is the first international airport to open in the country since 1997.
"It is really going to be an economic driver for all of northwest Florida's economy for years to come," he said.
The new airport is expected to generate approximately $80 million in new state revenues over the first 20 years of operation.
But the challenge, now, is to convince tourists that the water is clean."

Sick Fishermen and Oily Smells on the Gulf Coast

"Yesterday in Venice, Louisiana, fishermen and local residents called a press conference to talk about the air. People complained of the oily smells when the wind is blowing off the water, and listed symptoms including headaches, nosebleeds, asthma attacks, cough, nausea, and vomiting. Those who had been out on the water said it was even worse out there."

US rifles not suited to warfare in Afghan hills

"The U.S. military's workhorse rifle — used in battle for the last 40 years — is proving less effective in Afghanistan against the Taliban's more primitive but longer range weapons.
As a result, the U.S. is reevaluating the performance of its standard M-4 rifle and considering a switch to weapons that fire a larger round largely discarded in the 1960s.
The M-4 is an updated version of the M-16, which was designed for close quarters combat in Vietnam. It worked well in Iraq, where much of the fighting was in cities such as Baghdad, Ramadi and Fallujah.
But a U.S. Army study found that the 5.56 mm bullets fired from M-4s don't retain enough velocity at distances greater than 1,000 feet (300 meters) to kill an adversary. In hilly regions of Afghanistan, NATO and insurgent forces are often 2,000 to 2,500 feet (600-800 meters) apart.
Afghans have a tradition of long-range ambushes against foreign forces. During the 1832-1842 British-Afghan war, the British found that their Brown Bess muskets could not reach insurgent sharpshooters firing higher-caliber Jezzail flintlocks.
Soviet soldiers in the 1980s found that their AK-47 rifles could not match the World War II-era bolt-action Lee-Enfield and Mauser rifles used by mujahedeen rebels.
"These are important considerations in Afghanistan, where NATO forces are frequently attacked by insurgents using ... sharpshooter's rifles, which are all chambered for a full-powered cartridge which dates back to the 1890s," said Paul Cornish, curator of firearms at the Imperial War Museum in London."

Leaving aside the massive immorality of murderous foreign adventurism, any examination of how the military bigwigs go about their various subjugations always show they're not the sharpest tools in the toolbox. They will continue to screw the pooch, repeatedly. Corporate thinking trumps reality every time because the reasons the US military is playing war is all about power politics and corporate bottom line.

They'll throw what they have at the newest manufactured military fight, no matter how innapropriate the tools, and resist change while the pawns suffer and die, until the PR gets too hot to resist. Think body armor, or balsa wood Humvees.

And add the miserable little 5.56 round fired from .223 platforms. It was designed to replace the venerable and much beloved M-14 which shot 30 caliber bullets, and was forced on soldiers in Vietnam with oftentimes disastrous results. It's essentially a speedy .22 caliber round, but .22 caliber has so little mass it quickly loses pounds per square inch punch as it travels, meaning at distance it's little more than a mosquito bite, which is the big complaint in Afghanistan. The AK47 vs. M16 brouhaha has raged since forever. You can bring up pros and cons and cite statistics about each until you're blue in the face, but the fact of the matter is that like hunting in vast open spaces such as the western US or waging war on the locals in the sprawling asian high desert, little bullets don't measure up.

I must have wanted to rant today because this article brought up a peculiarity that's bugged me over the years. America has a firearms tradition of big bore handguns and smaller bore long guns that goes back to the 1800s. ("Here lies Les Moore, shot by a .44. No Les, No More) John Browning's big 1911 .45 caliber pistol is widely praised as the ultimate sidearm and when the US military adopted 9 mm in the 80s to conform to NATO standards, the histrionics and gnashing of teeth over the change to a smaller round was legendary. Resistence to the 9 continues unabated. In the last couple of decades the race was on to churn out bigger and bigger handgun cartridges until now there's any number of hand cannons in both revolvers and semi autos. At the same time, western militaries adopted speedy little rifle cartridges such as the 5.56.

I go in exactly the opposite direction. Minimum long gun shooters in my safe are AK caliber and my favorite handgun is a soviet era 7.62 x 25, a most powerful bottleneck thingy but absolutely miniscule compared to a .45. I very much prefer bigger bore rifles and smaller caliber handguns and I think the article above tends to prove the worth of that long gun point of view, along with very recent developments in handgun manufacture that also buck common assumptions.
A new little pistol caliber, the 5.7 x 28 mm, is gaining popularity and is so effective some ammunition for the guns is reserved only for military and police. You can't just go buy it.
Mrs lipstick shoots a small calibered, but potent, .22 magnum revolver, and next month Kel Tec is debuting a most interesting pistol in that size, the PMR 30, that holds an astonishing 30 rounds per magazine. We'll be taking a good look at that.

You know why I think smaller caliber, high velocity handguns like the above are superior firepower, contrary to tradition, and more people are agreeing all the time?
They slice through type 2 body armor like a hot knife through butter.
Count me among the wogs.
