Whole Lot Wrong With This "Story"

Yale student plunged from Empire State Building

"The man who plunged to his death in an apparent suicide jump off the Empire State building was a junior from Yale University.
Twenty-one-year-old Cameron Dabaghi from Austin, Texas, jumped from the 86th floor Tuesday. That floor has an observation deck open to the public.
He was dead when rescue workers arrived at the 102-story skyscraper shortly before 6:30 p.m."

"The Empire State Building is the third-tallest building in the United States. More than 30 people have committed suicide at the building since it opened in 1931. The most recent was believed to have been in 2006."

First off, a person who reports on something "believes" facts to be true? What?
Also, jumping from the 86th floor observation deck is nearly impossible due to the tall hooked in safety barriors.

Nearly impossible but not inconceivable for a fit 20 something, just the wrong age to ever think of doing something like this. But the story neatly fits a need to remember the tower jumpers on 9/11, a crass propaganda ploy to exploit our vulnerable window of opportunity as we watched the inside job unfold before our horrified eyes.

Nation Of Mean Streets

This is probably the last cross country driving trip I'll ever undertake. In the sense that I'd rely on things that we used to take for granted when we get behind the wheel and drive somewhere. I'm coming to the end of a motoring trip across country and back because my elderly father got ill and needed some help.

For those people who don't go on long driving trips there's a terrible secret that they should know - it completely changed within the last several years and you better understand what you're getting into before you start out.

First. this nation's infrastructure is decaying at an incredible rate. In the last decade I've been truly shocked at how horrible the highway system is in this country. There's no getting around it anymore, we're a third world nation in the sense that a lot of our roads are barely drivable. There just isn't the funding or the will to keep them smooth and safe; as a matter of fact some communities don't even bother with pavement any more.

This is a sad reality when you're traveling and please take it to heart - avoid cities at all cost. Even if it means a longer drive, use alternate routes. In the last few years the highways in most large cities have become a convoluted maze of deathtraps. I'll get to the drivers in a bit, but let's take a look at the roads. Traffic increased many times the estimates pretended to foretell. And here's the filthy truth - no one knows what the fuck to do about it. All large city highways are rapidly coming to pieces. The pavement must be repaired, new conduits have to be added to accomodate all those vehicles, but it has to be done piecemeal, in fits and starts, otherwise there would be major detours. And now only after they scrape together the bucks to do it.

Because of that most major city highway systems are un-navigatable. Only the locals know how to get around successfully after cursing through many attempts. Forget about GPS systems, recent construction confounds them too much to be reliable. Here's the skinny, Pilgrim, city tranportation planners made it easier for them, not you, the driver. Lanes appear and disappear. Through traffic is re routed in mysterious ways to favor heavy local flow. Sporadic repairs mean constant, endless construction zones, and don't forget all the corrupt local patronage and bribery. Metro road systems now resemble plates of spaghetti. Travelers naively stumbling into this chaos will get ground into pulp just trying to navigate around, and that doesn't take into account the city drivers.

Also a short caution about cops. Municipalities need money. Be advised.

When you travel you'll get calmer moments to reflect on things, and here's some of what I've come up with. Everywhere now but mostly in and around cities, traffic has become far, far more dangerous, really just in the last few years. Driving habits have deteriorated to disastrous levels. Used to be that there were always a few shitty drivers, now it's become the norm. Whether it's conforming to a new environment or not, they're out there in legions.

1. Sense of traffic flow has all but evaporated. Rather than exist in an even stream of vehicles which will actually get you where you want to go fastest, people gauge their progress by competing with the vehicles around them. Ergo you get lane jockeys and stupid maneuvers to get ahead of the next person to the point of insanity.

2. Kids that grew up on video games have taken them to the streets. These pimply jackoffs have no clue that those are people in other vehicles and treat them as obstacles they'll score points off of. Until they're horribly burned and maimed for life. Too bad they take others to the hospital.

3. Faux, light, little would be sports cars make people think they're race car professionals. Technology far outstripped peoples' abilities.

4. People in our society just don't give a shit anymore. It's dog eat dog godamnit and fuck the rules, get outa my way.
Which is coupled with abject terror. People are scared to death about losing their job, losing time, losing anything. It'a all unsustainable now, people know it, and are acting like frantic, infantile fools.

5. And all the above strangely coexists with a feeling of smug satisfaction that it all will just dreamily continue and you can just blithely continue to do what you want with no consequences. So people speed along at 70 in pea soup fog. Drive while texting or yakking on the phone. I'll never forget video of the Loma Prieta earthquake when all those highways fell. Drivers never even slowed down and flew off into oblivion when the road in front of them collapsed. Pretty apt metaphor.

Large Hadron Collider to start high energy 'God Particle' hunt

"Scientists at the European Centre for Nuclear Research (Cern), which operates the £5bn atom-smasher on the Franco-Swiss border, are expected to restart high-energy operations on Tuesday morning.
Their aim is to steer speeding atomic particles into head-on collisions in a bid to mimic the conditions seen moments after the Big Bang."

South Africa to kick homeless off streets before World Cup

"Thousands of homeless people are being forced off the streets of South Africa to hide the scale of poverty there from World Cup fans.
More than 800 tramps, beggars and street children have already been removed from Johannesburg and sent to remote settlements hundreds of miles away.
And in Cape Town, where England face Algeria on June 18, up to 300 have been moved to Blikkiesdorp camp where 1,450 families are crammed in a settlement of tin huts designed for just 650 people.
Johannesburg councillor Sipho Masigo was unrepentant. "Homelessness and begging are big problems in the city," he said. "You have to clean your house before you have guests. There is nothing wrong with that."

New York to buzz to the sound of bees

"Apiarists who have long had to cloak their activities with camouflaged hives and furtive forays on to sky scraper roofs were celebrating this week and predicting a beekeeping boom among New Yorkers anxious to connect with nature.
Following a campaign led by locally-produced food campaigners, the city's health board voted to overturn the ban.

Apiarists will now only need to register their hives and guarantee that they can control swarms and ensure their bees do not interfere with other people.
Perhaps the unlikeliest of outlaws, beekeepers have risked fines of up to $2000 (£1,330) if involved in the "possession, keeping, harbouring and selling" of bees.
Other US cities such as San Francisco and Chicago have thriving – and legal – beekeeping communities but, in 1999, the New York administration of Mayor Rudy Giuliani responded to a growing problem of exotic pets by drawing up a list of 100 types of wild animal considered too dangerous to be kept in the city.
They included grizzly bears, cheetahs, scorpions, elephants, ferrets and honey bees.
However, hundreds – the exact number is unclear due to the secrecy of some practitioners – defied the ban, covertly keeping bees on top of apartment buildings, in communal gardens and in their own backyards.
Hives were frequently camouflaged – painted grey to look like air conditioning units or red, like chimneys.
The bravest beekeepers would even sell their produce at local farmer's markets, thumbing their noses at officialdom with honey, soap and wax candles clearly labelled as locally-produced.
There have been sporadic prosecutions, usually as a result of complaints from scared neighbours, but identifying the owner of a hive on top of a large apartment building is difficult.
"Everybody's just jumping up and down with joy over this ban being lifted. I know lots of people who are very cautious and were afraid to do something illegal," said John Howe, whose 650-member New York City Beekeeping MeetUp Group threw a celebration party this week.
Interest in beekeeping had rocketed in recent years, say veterans. As in other US cities, many New Yorkers have embraced the so-called "locavore" movement to encourage locally-produced food – a development which has encouraged interest in bees, not only as honey-makers but also as important crop pollinators."

Bees in more trouble than ever after bad winter

Health Care Shit Sandwich

from Black Sun Gazette

"My loyal readers of Black Sun Gazette are none too surprised that I am adamantly opposed to the health care bill which was recently passed by Congress. There’s a lot of confusion surrounding the bill, not the least bit due to a massive campaign of disinformation and lies coming from The White House and its toadies in the corporate media. I’m sort of amazed at how otherwise rational people are joining in the Democratic Party circle jerk that is accompany yet another massive transfer of wealth from working class people to corporate elites in this country.
The health care “reform” bill isn’t anything that deserves the name reform. The very word “reform” at least tacitly implies amelioration of social ills. For those who haven’t seen it, the fact sheet from Fire Dog Lake–a “progressive,” pro-Democratic Party blog–explains a lot about what is wrong with the bill. It doesn’t protect or aid the people it purports to and requires you to pay a large part of your income to, not a tax pool, but private companies. The bill puts pressure on insurance companies to provide fewer services of lower quality with higher co-pays which means that many people at the bottom levels of society will be paying for services that they can’t even use. The elevator pitch version? Insurance companies basically wrote this bill, Joe Lieberman pushed it and insurance company stocks are skyrocketing. If you need to know more than that, I’ve got a dollar I can loan you to buy a clue.
How the bill will actually work in reality is outlined succinctly in another article from Fire Dog Lake which uses the historically imprecise but emotionally evocative term neo-feudalism to describe this bill. To the best of my knowledge this is the first time in American history when citizens will be required by law to tithe a pre-determined portion of their income to private companies, none of which seem to have a waning rapacity for superprofits. Indeed, the health care bill can quite possibly be seen as an attempt to totally privatize and ration health care in the United States, what with its massive attacks on Medicare and Social Security–cynically called attacks on “waste” by the President and those foolish enough to believe him.
What those who have been taken for a ride by the Democratic Party (once again) on the matter of health care fail to realize is that everything good about this country, from the abolition of slavery to the Civil Rights Act, was the product of a hard fought struggle by millions of people. The rights and privileges that we enjoy in the United States were not handed down by benevolent rulers trying to “do good” by their people. Rather, things like Social Security were wrested from a terrified ruling class who would give up any scrap from their table to maintain their social power. In the words of Martin Luther King, “Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed.” Those who subscribe to any variation of the notion that the people who run this country are going to give up anything without a fight desperately need a lesson in history and basic reality. From the very beginning, the health care bill has been an attempt at ramming a reorganization of the industry down the throats of the American people by cynically using the language of “reform.”

Pope Thinks Destroying Childrens' Lives Is Irrelevant

Pope dismisses 'petty gossip' of sexual abuse allegations

"Pope Benedict, facing the worst crisis of his papacy as a sexual abuse scandal sweeps the Catholic church, declared today he would not be "intimidated" by "petty gossip", angering activists who say he has done too little to stamp out paedophilia.
Addressing crowds in St Peter's square during a Palm Sunday service, the pope did not directly mention the scandal spreading though Europe and engulfing the Vatican, but alluded to it during his sermon. Faith in God, he said, led "towards the courage of not allowing oneself to be intimidated by the petty gossip of dominant opinion".
As Benedict spoke, the president of Switzerland, Doris Leuthard, called for a central register of paedophile priests to keep them away from children. In Austria, the archbishop of Vienna announced the creation of a commission funded by the church, but without church representatives, to look into Austrian abuse claims.
Benedict came under attack after it was revealed that he had been involved in dealing with two cases of abuse. In the first a German priest in therapy for paedophilia returned to work with children while the pope was archbishop of Munich. In the second, in the late 1990s when Benedict was a senior Vatican figure, his deputy stopped a church trial against a Wisconsin priest accused of abusing deaf boys."

They Might Mean Well But It's Still Astroturf

Secrets of the Tea Party: The Troubling History of Tea Party Leader Dick Armey

"As the Tea Party movement has gained momentum during the last 12 months, it seems few Tea Partiers have caught on to the troubling past of the man at the center of their movement: FreedomWorks chairman, former House Majority Leader and recently-retired lobbyist extraordinaire, Dick Armey.
As chairman of FreedomWorks, the group credited with mobilizing the Tea Party movement, Armey is the movement's de facto leader. Yet Armey's years spent lobbying for a group recognized by the State Department as being a terrorist organization--should give Tea Partiers pause.
In the weeks before April 15, 2009, local newspapers began reporting that groups calling themselves TEA, or Taxed Enough Already, were planning rallies to protest wasteful government spending. By the time Tax Day rolled around, over 300 protests were under way in all 50 states. More than 100,000 people took to the streets, gathered in parks and city centers with signs, slogans and costumes evoking America's revolutionary past.
The protests have continued. On Sept. 12, 2009, Tea Partiers marched on Washington, D.C. From a podium at the base the Capitol Building, Armey addressed the crowd with his wife Susan by his side. They were standing there together, he said, for the future of their grandchildren.
When the first rounds of stimulus didn't work, what'd they do? The same thing the government always tries to do with a bad idea: If it doesn't work, do more. ... I want to make one clear idea: Not too long ago, President Barack Obama stood right there on that stage. He said the one singular pledge of commitment that we ask of every elected official in America at every level. He pledged a commitment of fidelity to the United States Constitution.
At which point the crowd burst into the collective chant: "You lie! You lie! You lie," echoing Rep. Joe Wilson's (R-S.C.) outburst during Obama's address to Congress two days earlier.
Armey went on to lead the masses in the chant: "Freedom works! Freedom works! Freedom works!"

Bank of America and Wells Fargo May Pay No Taxes for 2009

" The tax news has been all good lately for some of the nation’s leading banks. First, JPMorgan Chase found out it will receive a fat refund from the federal government, and now Bank of America and Wells Fargo won’t have to pay federal income taxes for 2009.

BofA is off the hook because it reportedly lost money last year. As for Wells Fargo, the country’s fourth largest bank won’t have to pay income taxes because of losses it sustained from rescuing Wachovia.

JPMorgan Chase is expecting a tax refund of possibly as much as $4 billion as a result of the stimulus plan and its takeover of Washington Mutual."

Netanyahu: Israel will respond to any attack

"Israel will retaliate against any attack on its citizens or soldiers, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday, adding that Hamas would be made to be held accountable for actions. The prime minister's comments come following the death of two soldiers in Gaza clashes on Friday, which increased concern in the Israel Defense Forces that Hamas is trying to alter the situation along the Gaza Strip border fence, which will result in their targeting of Israeli patrols.
"Israel's policy of retaliation is forceful and decisive," the PM said during the weekly government meeting in Jerusalem, asserting that Israel would "retaliate decisively against any attack on our citizens and soldiers."

The zionists are desperately itching to proceed with their final Palestinian solution. It can't be accomplished until Israel again achieves it's victim status that that in their eyes allows them to justify whatever massive war crimes they have planned. If there are other big news items in the world, such as a war between North and South Korea, so much the better because then ziofascist murder and expulsion won't make front page news. I'd say look for Israel to make it's move while other crises hog the headlines.

How is Ratzinger getting away with it?

"The latest and most damning evidence of the Pope’s personal involvement in cover-ups comes from the New York Times which has uncovered documents that show that when the present Pope was plain old Cardinal Ratzinger, Inquisitor-in-Chief at the Vatican, he was repeatedly made aware of the activities of an horrendous serial abuser, Father Lawrence C. Murphy of Wisconsin, and did nothing to stop him.
Murphy is said to have abused over 200 boys at a school for the deaf. Appeals for help to the Vatican from the bishop involved were ignored by Ratzinger.

South Korean Navy Ship Was 'Split In Two' By Mystery Explosion

"The mysterious explosion
which sunk a South Korean naval ship split the vessel's hull in two, officials say.
The two halves are lying in about 40 feet of water but bad weather has prevented military divers from reaching the wreckage.
A total of 46 sailors are missing but rescuers say it is unlikely anyone could have survived three days in the near-freezing water.
The exact cause of the explosion remained unclear - and officials said it could take weeks to determine.
The ship, which was on a routine patrol with other vessels in the Yellow Sea off South Korea's west coast, sank about three hours after the blast.
Fierce waves and high winds have hampered the search in the area where the two Koreas have fought bloody naval engagements.
Despite the location of the sinking, North Korea did not appear to be involved."

"There is no possibility whatsoever that the ship sank due to an internal explosion or a collision with a reef."

US deaths double in Afghanistan as troops pour in

"The number of U.S. troops killed in Afghanistan has roughly doubled in the first three months of 2010 compared to the same period last year as Washington has added tens of thousands of additional soldiers to reverse the Taliban's momentum.
Those deaths have been accompanied by a dramatic spike in the number of wounded, with injuries more than tripling in the first two months of the year and trending in the same direction based on the latest available data for March.
U.S. officials have warned that casualties are likely to rise even further as the Pentagon completes its deployment of 30,000 additional troops to Afghanistan and sets its sights on the Taliban's home base of Kandahar province, where a major operation is expected in the coming months."

Letter To My Wife

I didn't get too far today. For the first time in my life, for some reason, I'm having what I suppose are allergy symptoms. Last two days my eyes really itched and hurt. Then this morning as I pulled up stakes I started in sneezing. Since I've never experienced allergy symptoms I didn't even think about it.... -....until I saw the thick covering of gymnosperm pollen on the hood of the truck.
Now I know a little how people with allergy feel, even though this isn't much to complain about; I think it's only because it's such a heavy dusting that I'm feeling anything; and I'm probably not allergic but it's as thick as smog.
Made my eyes water too much so I stopped just shy of 300 miles. Plus squalls moved in and buffeted the rig about.
Kinda tough findin' that there WisFis down heeyah. Stopped at 2 RV places and by jiminy, they's workin' on it.
Found myself much more relaxed after taking care of my father, but not completely because I despise this country, going this way I'm driving slower than boogying to Florida from the SW, because I didn't know what I would find out about Dad.
Forgot today was The Lord's Day and heeyah bouts no liquor is sold, so to supplement my two fingers of whisky I bought two quarts of Old English 800, my absolute favorite beverage of all time.
This is the asshole of the country and because it's such a huge intestinal system they're at least 10 years behind everyone else as far as technology goes and about 40 - 50 years behind in social understanding. Only reason central to south Florida can't be lumped in with these troglodytes is the constant influx of new people, forcing the issues. In the morning I'm going to get the camera ready for the billboards, which I'm sure still stain the entire way along I 10 into Texas. Like I said I'm not going to relax completely until I see San Antone disappear in the rear view mirror.
Red rock, wide vistas, Kachinas await.

Police State Entitled To Electrocute Fetuses

Court: Seattle police OK to stun pregnant woman

"Three Seattle police officers were justified when they used a stun gun on a pregnant mother who refused to sign a traffic ticket, a federal appeals court ruled Friday in a case that prompted an incredulous dissent.
Malaika Brooks was driving her son to Seattle's African American Academy in 2004 when she was stopped for doing 32 mph in a school zone. She insisted it was the car in front of her that was speeding, and refused to sign the ticket because she thought she'd be admitting guilt.
Rather than give her the ticket and let her go on her way, the officers decided to arrest her. One reached in, turned off her car and dropped the keys on the floor. Brooks stiffened her arms against the steering wheel and told the officers she was pregnant, but refused to get out, even after they threatened to stun her.
The officers — Sgt. Steven Daman, Officer Juan Ornelas and Officer Donald Jones — then stunned her three times, in the thigh, shoulder and neck, and hauled her out of the car, laying her face-down in the street.
Brooks gave birth to a healthy baby two months later, but has permanent scars from the Taser. She sued the officers for violating her constitutional rights, and U.S. District Judge Richard Jones allowed the case to continue. He declined to grant the officers immunity for performing their official duties and said Brooks' rights were clearly violated.
But in a 2-1 ruling Friday, a panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals disagreed. Judges Cynthia Holcomb Hall and Diarmuid F. O'Scannlain held that the officers were justified in making an arrest because Brooks was obstructing them and resisting arrest.
The use of force was also justified because of the threat Brooks posed, Hall wrote: "It seems clear that Brooks was not going to be able to harm anyone with her car at a moment's notice. Nonetheless, some threat she might retrieve the keys and drive off erratically remained, particularly given her refusal to leave the car and her state of agitation."
They also noted that the force used wasn't that serious because the Taser was in "touch" mode rather than "dart" mode, which hurts more. They reversed the lower court's opinion and held that the officers were entitled to immunity from the lawsuit.
The officers' lawyers, Ted Buck and Karen Cobb, said the officers made the right decision under the circumstances they faced.
"Police officers have to have the ability to compel people to obey their lawful orders," Buck said."

French firm offers to kidnap paying thrill-seekers

"For £1,000, customers of Ultime Réalité, a company in Besançon, eastern France, can buy a basic abduction package in which they are seized by strangers, bundled into a car bound and gagged, and kept in a dank cellar for four hours.
If that sounds too tame, boat chases and helicopter escapes can be added to the tailor-made experience, and customers kept for longer periods, depending on the budget.
"You will go through the real sensations of violence, terror and fear of a real kidnapping – a psychological shock that you won't forget in a hurry," promises the company's website.
Customers explain exactly what they want and once the scenario is established, they sign a contract and liability waiver, but have no idea exactly when or where their abductors will strike.
"We follow you for a few days. At an opportune moment, in the street or elsewhere, we kidnap you," the contract stipulates.
Georges Cexus, 28, launched Ultime Réalité in January and says it is already receiving two orders a day, mainly from top-level executives.
He said the maximum incarceration time was 11 hours, after which the novelty may start to wear off."

Stalin and bin Laden simply don’t cut it. Only one man dominates the TV schedules

"I stayed in on my own the other night. I put on some slightly ripe lounging clothes, got my feet on the coffee table and began tantalisingly running my index finger up and down the television remote control. Many British middle-aged men reading this will think they know what’s coming next.
A night in with complete control of the remote? They’d do what lots of other British middle-aged men would do. They’d scour the satellite television channels for Adolf Hitler documentaries. This is a bit like looking for hay in a haystack. It’s often possible to plan the whole evening around the Führer. I had a quick look at the listings. There was a documentary about his final days, another about his attitude to the Channel Isles, another about the Night of the Long Knives, and so it went on. I’m amazed that someone hasn’t polarised this phenomenon and come up with the Hitler Channel. Then they’d no longer have to water down the content by including programmes about Elizabeth I or the invention of the hovercraft. It would be Adolf all the way.
For some reason, it seems British men of a certain age can’t get enough of him. He’s their Lady Gaga. One can imagine them laughing scornfully at their teenage kids and pointing out that Gaga’s not the first celebrity to wear crazy outfits and suffer undermining speculation about testicles."

"It’s a grim irony for the Germans that the darkest days of their history just happened to coincide with the only time they’ve ever been regarded as well dressed."

Now who would benefit from a never ending reminder of Hitler and the Nazis?

More Vanishing Dogmatic Science

These archeological stories are coming fast and furious now. It's astonishing, really, how established scientific paradigms are literally being smashed into pieces. With this revelation fom Turkey, all textbooks on human history are immediately invalid because according to them the constructions at this stupendous site had to have been built by cavemen, at least 12 to 13,000 years ago.

Of course media will sensationalize stuff like this with references to biblical fantasy to sell it, but mysterious archeology is always referred to in religious terms. It doesn't detract fom it's immense significance.

come on, lcd tv screens? didn't they have cave paintings?

Do these mysterious stones mark the site of the Garden of Eden?

"For the old Kurdish shepherd, it was just another burning hot day in the rolling plains of eastern Turkey. Following his flock over the arid hillsides, he passed the single mulberry tree, which the locals regarded as 'sacred'. The bells on his sheep tinkled in the stillness. Then he spotted something. Crouching down, he brushed away the dust, and exposed a strange, large, oblong stone.
The man looked left and right: there were similar stone rectangles, peeping from the sands. Calling his dog to heel, the shepherd resolved to inform someone of his finds when he got back to the village. Maybe the stones were important.
They certainly were important. The solitary Kurdish man, on that summer's day in 1994, had made the greatest archaeological discovery in 50 years. Others would say he'd made the greatest archaeological discovery ever: a site that has revolutionised the way we look at human history, the origin of religion - and perhaps even the truth behind the Garden of Eden.

A few weeks after his discovery, news of the shepherd's find reached museum curators in the ancient city of Sanliurfa, ten miles south-west of the stones.
They got in touch with the German Archaeological Institute in Istanbul. And so, in late 1994, archaeologist Klaus Schmidt came to the site of Gobekli Tepe (pronounced Go-beckly Tepp-ay) to begin his excavations.
As he puts it: 'As soon as I got there and saw the stones, I knew that if I didn't walk away immediately I would be here for the rest of my life.

Photobucket

Schmidt stayed. And what he has uncovered is astonishing. Archaeologists worldwide are in rare agreement on the site's importance. 'Gobekli Tepe changes everything,' says Ian Hodder, at Stanford University.
David Lewis-Williams, professor of archaeology at Witwatersrand University in Johannesburg, says: 'Gobekli Tepe is the most important archaeological site in the world.'
Some go even further and say the site and its implications are incredible. As Reading University professor Steve Mithen says: 'Gobekli Tepe is too extraordinary for my mind to understand."

It shouldn't be that hard to grasp if you allow yourself to understand that human history is far more complex and interesting than rigid science will allow. As the conduit between european and asian landmasses, Turkey has already proven to be pivotal to understanding the truth about the rise and fall of civilizations. The entire story of human existence on this planet is being rewritten during our lifetimes. Just ask the lucky divers who've marveled at the drowned megalithic structures off the coast of Okinawa that used to be on dry land over 10,000 years ago.

Kneepad Diplomacy

“There isn't any longer even a facade of ‘dual loyalty’, only loyalty to Israel alone – has reached a point where, despite its enormous power, the US is totally paralysed in the face of Israel." Alan Sabrosky

"There has been something verging on the surreal in the US-Israel interplay over the past year or so, culminating in the kick in – er, the face delivered to Vice-President Biden two weeks ago with Israel's surprise announcement of yet more new settlement construction, and capped by Secretary of State Clinton's groveling submission to Netanyahu at a recent American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) conference. Her speech was the verbal equivalent of what a White House intern allegedly did for her husband once (or more) upon a time, supposedly earning "Presidential kneepads" thereby.

Israeli officials have repeatedly not only ignored but also openly insulted in word or deed the persons or policies of almost every senior American official with whom they have dealt, including Clinton, Biden, Middle East envoy George Mitchell and President Obama himself.

And they have taken it, one and all, occasionally with brief bursts of verbal anger that rapidly subsided into yet another steadfast affirmation of the eternal, undiminished, unchallenged and unchallengeable US willingness to underwrite the security of Israel, and especially to its absolute unwillingness to deny Israel a single dollar, bomb or bullet. God knows, I wish they had even half the same demonstrated commitment to the security of the United States and the well-being of the American people – but then, no one can easily serve two masters."

Florida County school board rejects Taser proposal

"The Glynn County school board, voting 6-1 Tuesday night, rejected a proposal to arm the school system’s 24 police officers with Tasers.
School system Police Chief Ron Lee had requested the non-lethal weapons, saying officers needed them to do their job. The officers already carry .40-caliber semi-automatic pistols and pepper spray while some also have batons.
Board member John Madala, chairman of the board’s Safety and Discipline Committee, who advocated measure was the only one to vote for it.
Opposed were board Chairman Millard Allen, Vice Chairman Ray Snow and members Venus Holmes, Mike Hulsey, Jerry Mancil and Ruby Robinson. They cited the wishes of their constituents or concern that the school system would be sued if a student died or was severely injured after being tased."

Not because these inhumane eletrocution devices have been overused and have quickly risen to the top of threat level response by cops. Not because this is a school system meaning these are young children being talked about. Not because of the general repulsiveness of thugs with badges given power to be judge, jury and executioner all rolled into one.

No, the reason given is because out of control power trippers in uniform might do irreperable harm to somebody else's kid and their asses might be sued. Take away the threat of lawsuits and brownshirts like the school board would vote unanimously for whips and waterboarding.

I Never Tire Of The Bozo On The Street

I'll never forget that morning; just like most people I'll remember where I was when I first heard that planes were supposedly crashing into buildings. I was on my way to a local supermarket and caught a news blub.

I hurried back home and got on news websites and listened to the radio while my wife was in the living room watching the tube. I remember yelling out to her after about fifteen minutes, "Why the hell do they keep repeating this Osama guy's name?" Why indeed. Just like Infomercial Guy in the video, paid shills were ready to insert crucial memes into our consciousness right at moments of maximum vulnerability, which is probably a big reason TV spots repeatedly showed people leaping to their deaths. About that - it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if a lot of mind controlled plants were given jobs high up in the towers and programmed to smash windows and leap to their very filmable demise. Why did hundreds of people jump when firemen who got up there described minimal fire and a woman could climb to a hole and wave a white flag?

"Battalion Seven Chief: "Battalion Seven ... Ladder 15, we've got two isolated pockets of fire. We should be able to knock it down with two lines. Radio that, 78th floor numerous 10-45 Code Ones."

Right-winger Ann Coulter silenced by angry protesters at University of Ottawa

"OTTAWA - Hundreds of screaming students succeeded in what few thought possible Tuesday night - they silenced incendiary right-winger Ann Coulter.
Organizers for the American's tour of Canada scrubbed her much-anticipated speech at the University of Ottawa when students crowded the entrance before her arrival. A spokesman for the organizers said about 2,000 "threatening" students posed a security threat to the darling of the American right, and she was advised against appearing.
"It would be physically dangerous for Ann Coulter to proceed with this event," said conservative political activist Ezra Levant inside Marion Hall.
"This is an embarrassing day for the University of Ottawa and their student body . . . who chose to silence her through threats and intimidation."
The announcement was greeted with shouts of "Shame" and "We want Ann" from about 100 people who had managed to get into the hall.
Outside students celebrated: "Nananana, nanana, Goodbye Ann Coulter."
About 10 Ottawa police cruisers were called to the scene, but there was no violence.
Coulter expressed her outrage at the unfolding of events in Ottawa in interviews with the U.S. media.
"This has never happened before," she told The Washington Times Tuesday night.
"I go to the best schools, Harvard, the Ivy League and those kids are too intellectually proud to threaten speakers."
Calling the University of Ottawa a "bush league" institution, Coulter said "their IQ points-to-teeth ratio must be about 1-to-1."

Oversight Is So Stressfull

SEC Employees Yanked To Porn While Your Economy Tanked

"Over the past two years, more than a dozen Securities and Exchange employees and contractors have tried to view pornography on government computers at least 8,273 times. Here's what they were looking at while the global financial system cratered.
The Washington Times broke the story of the SEC's porn problem, which became the subject of numerous inspector general investigations, last month. And Dealbreaker subsequently published one report of an inspector general investigation into an SEC regional supervisor who viewed transvestite porn at work as stress relief.
Now we've obtained reports of 16 investigations into porn-surfing by SEC employees and contractors (one of them is a woman!), including one man who said his daily porn viewing at work was limited to "no longer than an hour and a half a day." The man told investigators that his porn habit grew out of looking at photos of men in bathing suits, which is sometimes known as "gateway porn"

Seeing The Devastation First Hand

It's one thing to pay attention to the news and try to digest just how bad it is across our now third world country; it's another thing to actually see it with your own eyes.

A couple of years ago my wife and I moved from the Pacific Northwest down to the Great Southwest. We've always made a point when we traveled to take William Least Heat-Moon's blue highways, avoiding interstates. So on that particular trip we edged down the west side of Utah, taking our time by staying on two lane roads, going through and passing by a lot of bedroom communities outside the Salt Lake City area.

What we saw was shattering. Mile after mile of housing developments completely abandoned, and from appearances, starting to decay. Thousands and thousands of new units and abandoned half builts that were dreamed up probably just before the start of the depression, and unless squatters move in are going to rot into the ground, because no one is going to buy them now without extensive repair. Forty, fifty miles of Beaver Cleaver type neighborhoods, mostly completely built, left to the elements.

Now I don't consider this a horribly bad thing in and of itself, because wasteful and stupid americana has always seemed unsustainable and doomed anyway. But this was two years ago and a clear indication that things were changing. As a matter of fact if you travel about the west plenty of towns and cities were plenty full of themselves over the years. They incorporated lots of empty desert - miles and miles of dusty nothingness in vain hopes people were going to flock to their bumfuck outpost and by jeebus they were going to get magnificently rich. All over the country, really, town limit signs are ridiculously placed. There's no better illustration of this than coming down over the pass into Pahrump, Nevada from Death Valley, where square miles of streets were laid out and not a single structure was built.

All right, bad planning. However the existing country is falling to pieces. There's no getting around it - we're a collapsing third world nation and our infrastructure is decaying fast. Some of our interstates are almost undrivable. Don't believe me? Try highway 84 east of Boise. Or interstate 5 around Shasta. Maybe a hundred other places where I've traveled that are almost too dangerous to drive. Take a close look at the miles of bridge supports around New Orleans and get back to me how comfy you feel going over them.

On this trip driving through Alabama was a real eye opener. Hard to believe this was the United States. The environs around Birmingham and Montgomery looked like what Germany must have looked like after WW2. Escape From New York bad. Road Warrior bad. Busted up abandoned vehicles. Whole malls shuttered and smashed windows. Undrivable streeets, bars on windows everywhere. Give me a fucking break, this is the Greatest Country On The Face Of The Earth? It's no coincidence that the population there is mostly black, just like it's no coincidence that two big american cities with large dark skinned populations, New Orleans and Detroit, lay in ruins.

I'm just commenting on a few places; I imagine most of the rest of the nation is decaying just as badly and just as rapidly. This country is dying a quick death and I don't think most grunting, Foxified, brain dead murricans even realize it, as long as the television is on and WalMart is open. It's like the highway in the movie "Brazil", where constant billboards line the road hiding total filthy devastation behind them. Or roads through clear cuts in the northwest where they leave a hundred feet of trees to mask the endless forest death beyond. It's like, as the bhagwan shri rajneesh up in Oregon called it, shiny barbarism. Terminally stupid people distracted by baubles, while their country disintegrates into delapidated rot.

A Ruinous Meltdown

"A story that is not getting nearly enough attention is the ruinous fiscal meltdown occurring in state after state, all across the country.

Let's Stop Pretending With This Fucking Crew

A little secret about Obama's transparency

"The Democratic administration of Barack Obama, who denounced his predecessor, George W. Bush, as the most secretive in history, is now denying more Freedom of Information Act requests than the Republican did.
Transparency and openness were so important to the new president that on his first full day in office, he dispatched a much-publicized memo saying: "All agencies should adopt a presumption in favor of disclosure, in order to renew their commitment to the principles embodied in FOIA, and to usher in a new era of open government. The presumption of disclosure should be applied to all decisions involving FOIA."
One of the exemptions allowed to deny Freedom of Information requests has been used by the Obama administration 70,779 times in its first year; the same exemption was used 47,395 times in Bush's final budget year.
An Associated Press examination of 17 major agencies' handling of FOIA requests found denials 466,872 times, an increase of nearly 50% from the 2008 fiscal year under Bush."

Stopping Israel’s Next War

What would serve the Jew-hating world better as repayment for thousands of years of massacres but a nuclear winter? Or invite all those tut-tutting European statesmen and peace activists to join us in the ovens? For the first time in history a people facing extermination while the world either cackles or looks away have the power to destroy the world. The ultimate justice?”

Preparations for a Hit against Iran

"A new war in the region is inevitable.” This is the pronouncement made by Mohammad Seyyed Selim, political scientist and professor at the universities of Cairo and Kuweit. Prof. Selim delivered his forecast on February 13, in a program on Nile TV’s “Cairo Watch,” in which I also participated. The moderator, Mohamed Abdel-Rahim, started off by asking what crisis situations in the region were most acute; Iran and the Arab-Israeli conflict were the obvious answers.

That war is on the agenda, Selim noted, is beyond doubt. Israeli political and military leaders have been broadcasting such bellicose intentions loudly enough for the deaf to hear. Yossi Peled said he thought conflict with Hezbollah was inevitable. Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman warned the Syrian government that if it were to intervene in an Israeli-Lebanese conflict, it would disintegrate. As if that were not sufficient, the Israeli Mossad had staged a Hollywood-style extravaganza to murder Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in Dubai on January 20. Four days later, Netanyahu declared that Israel would maintain control over parts of the West Bank for all eternity. He followed up with the announcement that Israel would designate three sites on the West Bank as part of Israel’s national heritage. These were all deliberately crafted provocations, aimed solely at eliciting a violent response from the other side: perhaps that Hezbollah would kidnap an Israeli soldier, or that Hamas would lob a few rockets across the border to Israel. Fortunately, to date, their response has been measured.

Whenever Israel threatens military action against Hamas, Hezbollah, and/or Syria, it is certain that the actual target is Iran. This was the case in the 2006 war in Lebanon, and in the 2008 year-end aggression against Gaza. (See: “
The Target is Iran: Israel’s Latest Gamble May Backfire,”). As a preparation for a hit against the Islamic Republic in both cases, Tel Aviv was attempting to remove from the scene, or at least weaken, those factors in the region which could respond militarily and politically. Israel lost both wars, albeit at a heavy price for the civilians of the targeted populations. Now it is gearing up for renewed attacks, in tandem with an artfully orchestrated international campaign around Iran’s alleged nuclear bomb program.

The targeted nations and political movements are well aware of this fact. It is no coincidence that the leaders of those forces joined in a public display of solidarity on March 4 in Damascus. As pictured in major media, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad hosted talks with Iranian President Ahmadinejad and Hezbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrullah. Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal and other Palestinian rejection front representatives were also on hand. There is no need to inquire into the agenda of their talks. They are preparing for the worst case scenario: a direct Israeli attack."

The ziofascists are psychopaths with an agenda to fulfill. Israel is determined to to claim unfettered hegemony in the middle east no matter what the cost to america. At this point there apparently is no stopping these crazed, murderous megalomaniacs. The US is Israel's bitch, period.

You Want Flies With That?

"Proof, says the American nutritionist who took these photographs, that it contains so many preservatives that it is bad for the children it is aimed at.
Joann Bruso said: 'Food is supposed to decompose, go bad and smell foul eventually. The fact that it has not decomposed shows you how unhealthy it is for children.'
Mrs Bruso left the Happy Meal uncovered on a shelf at her home near Denver, Colorado, to see what would happen. She has revealed the results on her blog, in which she gives healthy eating advice to parents.
The 62-year-old, who has eight grandchildren, admitted that the arid temperature of her home near the Rocky Mountains meant there was little moisture in the air with which to speed decomposition.

But she added that during the year-long experiment, no flies or other insects were attracted to the food.
She said: 'I had the windows open many times, but flies and other insects just ignored the Happy Meal. What does that tell you, if they can't be bothered with it?
'Food is broken down into its essential nutrients in our bodies and turned into fuel. Our children grow strong bodies when they eat real food.
'If flies ignore a Happy Meal and microbes don't decompose it, then your child's body can't properly metabolise it either.
'Now you know why it's called junk food."

Loud Sex Enough for Cops to Search Your Home, Court Rules

"For Brian McGacken of Farmingdale, New Jersey, an evening of loud sex resulted in a 10-year prison sentence for growing marijuana.
On Feb. 17, 2007, New Jersey state troopers arrived at McGacken's home, responding to an anonymous 911 call complaining of screams coming from McGacken's home. McGacken explained the noise was a bout of loud sex; his girlfriend appeared at the front door and corroborated his claim.
But officers searched his home anyway, and found enough marijuana -- including potted plants -- to put him away for 10 years on charges of producing a controlled substance.

Appealing the conviction, McGacken argued that, once police knew the noise was consensual sex, they no longer had reason to search his home.

But the appellate panel at the Superior Court of New Jersey disagreed."

Synagogue Bomb Suspects: The Feds Put Us Up to It

"Defense attorneys say an alleged plot to bomb New York synagogues was hatched and directed by a federal informant.
Lawyers for four men from Newburgh have filed a motion to dismiss the terror indictment against them.
They said the informant badgered the defendants until they got involved in the plot.
They said the informant chose the targets, supplied fake bombs for the synagogues and a fake missile to shoot down planes. The motion said he also offered to pay the defendants, who attorneys alleged weren't inclined toward any crime until the informant began recruiting them

Driving Through Jeebusville

I sure don't like to prattle on about personal matters with this blog; that's not what I intended to do here. Actually what got me to get into this was steaming outrage about Katrina and the blatant criminality of it all. Over five thousand blog entries later and to be honest, I still haven't purged the anger.

But I'm on the road, not in a vacation sort of way and there's nothing I can do about it. I'm driving as fast as I can to Florida where both my elderly parents are institutionalized. My 90 year old father got pretty ill and was in intensive care for a week and now he's convalescing at a rest home. It was apparent to me that if I wanted to see either one of them alive one more time it was important to throw my things together and drive the 2200 miles to do so.

Buit drive is the operative word here. I fucking hate to fly; watching Up in the Air was like a case study of peculiar extraterrestrial activity. I imagine flying was once a pleasurable activity if you go back fifty or sixty years, when intentions were to place people's comfort and enjoyment first and foremost, instead of corporate bottom line. I think we'd all be better off in dirigibles.

I'll state one thing right now, I will never assume the surrender posture they want us all to do when going through those stinking, naked scanning cancer inducing, fourth amendment shredding pieces of intrusive shit machines:

please sir, no anal probe this time

which unfortunately are now in both airports I would have had to use. Plus I have a larger torso but holy shit, economy plane seats are complete insults to the human body even if you're a dwarf. And I for one, decidedly can not stand the entire cattle car aspect of shuttling the passengers around. Screw the deadlines and layovers and delays. I'm pulling a comfortable little motel room behind me where I do the decision making. Nice rest area? Time for a bite and a cup of tea. And no crawling over other bodies to stumble into a smelly broom closet to aim for a tiny basin. Any time I want I'll pull over and pee like a man should, aiming for rocks and ants and bellowing to the sky.

But as I drive further southeast I can feel a smothering gospel sense to the country. Haven't hit the billboards yet, but need to hit the radio search a lot more to skip the preachers; desklady yesterday said she'd pray for my safe trip; couldn't quite grab my camera fast enough today to take a picture of a hundred foot cross towering over a herd of cows out in a field. It's a funny thing, this a priori understanding, that everybody is conservative and god fearing, and since it's an election year the political campaigns down here try to out conserve and godfear the next guy. Basically the whole belly of the country is a bible belt from Florida to McCainland (What a fighter!), but I'm about to descend into the real swamp where endless billboards really start to chip away at your soul.

Our Master's Voice

"The United States may invade and occupy Iraq, undermine elected presidents in Haiti and throw its weight around in numerous ways in numerous parts of the world. Yet there is one country it does not dare to confront. Of course, the nation in question is Israel.
Israel and its allies in the United States make certain that no president, no political party, no congressional leader nor any citizen who wishes to be in any way influential, will dare to step outside the lines of proscribed behavior and discourse. The American public, either because they are aware of the pro-Israel grip on power, or because they have swallowed the propaganda whole, remain cowed and silent.
Israel can do whatever it wants not only with the United States, but with other western nations as well. Mossad agents succeeded in murdering Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Mabouh in Dubai last month by using doctored British, Irish, French, Australian and German passports and credit cards issued to an Israeli-run bank located in South Dakota. None of the nations involved has uttered more than the slightest peep after having their sovereignty violated in such an obvious manner.
Just in case there was any doubt about who is in charge, Israel insulted Vice President Joseph Biden and the United States government when Biden made a recent visit to Jerusalem. Biden made the pro forma journey to go through the motions of requesting that the peace process continue. The Israelis could have nudged, winked and gone through the pretense of moving forward on a just peace process. Instead they announced that more Jewish housing will be constructed on Palestinian land, embarrassing the Vice President and his boss, who wanted to pretend to be even handed when they and the rest of American political leadership are anything but. The Obama administration, like every other presidential administration in the last sixty years, does what Israel wants it to do. There shouldn’t be any reason for Israel to yank the Americans’ chain so hard and so publicly, but why follow the rules of diplomatic niceties when doing otherwise has been so successful?
The only thing worse than the obvious slap in the face, is the phony outrage surrounding it. No one gets anywhere near a presidential nomination without first swearing obedience to the Zionists and their lobby. If Obama and Biden and Hillary Clinton were truly upset with the Israelis, it is only because they were so blatant in making them all look like chumps."

When Authoritarians Whip You, It's Always For Your Own Good

Struggling Governments Get Creative to Raise Income

"France, promising to improve the environment, is planning to introduce a carbon tax. In Finland, where the government says it wants to improve diets, taxes are back on candy and soft drinks. Similarly, Denmark added tobacco and some fatty foods to the list.
All these taxes may be presented as serving virtuous ends, but they also share something else in common: they help plug budget holes swollen by a severe recession, big bailouts and billions in stimulus spending intended to ease the pain."
"As a result, analysts say, taxpayers from California to Copenhagen should brace themselves for more “stealth taxes” — indirect levies like sales taxes, or micro-charges on services once provided free or at low cost, like registering a pet."

Now That We've Won The Last Wars

Let's do Iran

Victory at Last?

"Take a moment with this.
That is the cover of Newsweek from the first week of March, the month in which we will mark the seventh anniversary of the invasion and occupation of Iraq. It was 2,555 days ago this Saturday, in fact, when televisions all across America lit up with the pyrotechnic images of "Shock and Awe," when explosions and fire roared over the city of Baghdad, when men, women and children were incinerated, when we all became war criminals whether we liked it or not.
The
article behind that triumphalist cover argued that this last election in Iraq is proof positive our war has at long last borne the fruits of true democracy in that nation, wiping the bloody slate clean and expunging all the grievous errors and tragedies which preceded it. A nice storyline, that, but it's one we've heard a number of times before. Remember the ink-stained fingers held up by Iraqis after one such election? Those who pushed for war declared that to be Victory at Last, too. It wasn't. Neither is this.
A lot of people have a great deal invested in rewriting the history of our attack on Iraq. The media, of course, would like the whole thing to go away; their for this bloody debacle ("Navy SEALS rawk!" saith Katie Couric; "We're all neo-cons now!" saith Chris Matthews) was the lubrication that made this death machine hum so efficiently for so long. Were they in it for the money? MSNBC is owned by General Electric, one of the defense contractors that profited wildly from the war.
The motivation to change the storyline for those in power who pushed this war upon us all is no less transparent than the media's. Recall how we got here. As the now-infamous
Downing Street Memo clearly indicated, the Bush administration was in collusion with British Prime Minister Tony Blair, almost a year before the invasion of Iraq was undertaken, to "fix the facts around the policy" of invasion based on the threat of weapons of mass destruction in order to fabricate a pretense for war. This fact was confirmed by none other than Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz in a May 2003 interview with Vanity Fair, in which he said, "For bureaucratic reasons, we settled on one issue, weapons of mass destruction (as justification for invading Iraq) because it was the one reason everyone could agree on."
The final nail in Iraq's coffin was hammered in by George W. Bush during his State of the Union address on January 20, 2003. This was a presidential act of terrorism against the American people, make no mistake, for its purpose was to frighten the citizens of this nation into following a course of action that was against their best interests and would come to no good end for anyone except the few who would prosper financially from the war to come. Mr. Bush, in the most ominous tones, told the American people that Iraq was in possession of 26,000 liters of anthrax; 38,000 liters of botulinum toxin; 500 tons - which is one million pounds - of sarin, mustard and VX nerve agent; 30,000 missiles to deliver the stuff; mobile biological weapons labs; al-Qaeda connections and uranium from Niger for use in a robust nuclear weapons program."

Filthy Underbelly Of Empire

America's Secret Prisons

"On January 28 in TomDispatch.com, Anand Gopal headlined, "Night Raids, Hidden Detention Centers, the 'Black Jail,' and the Dogs of War in Afghanistan," recounting unreported US media stories about killings, abductions, detentions, interrogations, and torture in "a series of prisons on US military bases around the country." Bagram prison, for example, is "a facility with a notorious reputation for abusive behavior," including brutalizing torture and cold-blooded murder.
Even worse is the "Black Jail," a facility consisting of individual windowless concrete cells with bright 24-hour lighting, described by one former detainee as "the most dangerous and fearful place" in which prisoners endure appalling treatment.
The pattern is predictable. US/NATO convoys are attacked or reports of Taliban forces are received. Americans respond accordingly, rounding up suspects, mostly innocent civilians, and detaining them for interrogations, torture, abuse and degrading treatment - not just in Afghanistan but in secret black sites globally, according to a January 26 UN Human Rights Council (HRC) report detailing practices engaged in by various countries including America, by far the world's worst offender in its war on terror - one waged against humanity for unchallengeable power and total global dominance.
Besides Guantanamo, Afghanistan and Iraq, HRC said the CIA runs scores of offshore secret prisons in over 66 countries worldwide for dissidents and alleged terrorists - in Egypt, Algeria, Jordan, Morocco, Syria, Libya, Tunisia, India, Pakistan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Sudan, Zimbabwe, Ethopia, Djibouti, Kenya, Poland, Romania, Bosnia, Kosovo, Thailand, Diego Garcia, and elsewhere."

Founding Father Falls From Favor

Texas Yanks Thomas Jefferson From Teaching Standard

"Widely regarded as one of the most important of all the founding fathers of the United States, Thomas Jefferson received a demotion of sorts Friday thanks to the Texas Board of Education.
The board voted to enact new teaching standards for history and social studies that will alter which material gets included in school textbooks. It decided to drop Jefferson from a world history section devoted to great political thinkers.
According to Texas Freedom Network, a group that opposes many of the changes put in place by the Board of Education, the original curriculum asked students to "explain the impact of Enlightenment ideas from John Locke, Thomas Hobbes, Voltaire, Charles de Montesquieu, Jean Jacques Rousseau and Thomas Jefferson on political revolutions from 1750 to the present."
That emphasis did not sit well with board member Cynthia Dunbar, who, during Friday's meeting, explained the rationale for changing it. "The Enlightenment was not the only philosophy on which these revolutions were based," Dunbar said.
The new standard, passed at the meeting in a 10-5 vote, now reads, "Explain the impact of the writings of John Locke, Thomas Hobbes, Voltaire, Charles de Montesquieu, Jean Jacques Rousseau, Thomas Aquinas, John Calvin and Sir William Blackstone."
By dropping mention of revolution, and substituting figures such as Aquinas and Calvin for Jefferson, Texas Freedom Network argues, the board had chosen to embrace religious teachings over those of Jefferson, the man who coined the phrase "separation between church and state."

Wikipedia - "In 2006, Dunbar won the Republican nomination for the Texas State Board of Education, saying voters responded to her because she supports teaching intelligent design in science classes.
Her 2008 book One Nation Under God advocates that the Christian religion should be in the public square more. In addition, she has been criticized for a section of the book that called public education a "subtly deceptive tool of perversion" as well as saying "The establishment of public schools is unconstitutional and even 'tyrannical'."
