Yankee Stadium Cashes In On Fake Terror War

Sunblock Ban Riles Fans

"Ladies and gentlemen, The Bronx is sunburning.
Yankee fans are seeing - and turning - red over a ban on sunscreen, which Stadium security guards say was widely expanded in the last few weeks.
Security guards collected garbage bags full of sunblock at the entrances to Yankee Stadium over the sweltering weekend, when temps hit 96 degrees and the UV index reached a skin-scorching 9 out of 10 - a move team officials said was to protect the Stadium from terrorism.
But fans baking in the bleachers and upper deck argued that the sun may be a bigger threat than Osama bin Laden.
"I was really pissed because, since I am Irish and I have a bald head, I need my sunblock," said Sean Gavin, 40, who had to toss his SPF 30 at the gate Saturday.
"After they saw me dousing myself with it, it should have been obvious to them that it was sunblock and not some explosive."
The team contends that sunscreen has long been on the list of stadium contraband, but there is no mention of it on the Yankee Web site.
Four weeks ago, Stadium officials decided that sunscreen of all sizes and varieties would not be permitted, a security supervisor told The Post before last night's game."

But there could be a good, solid reason for this terror precaution:

"The Stadium does sell 1-ounce bottles of Arizona Sun SPF 15 for $5 - a huge markup that makes its beer seem cheap."

What a racket.

This site sells 1 oz of the stuff for $2.50. And we can only guess what the discount is for buying it in bulk.

What a racket indeed.
The only reason to deny your posession of sunblock is to make you shell out your money to buy their fucking garbage.
Just like 20 years ago when I went up to a Seahawks game at the Kingdome and they yanked my several beers so they could sell me their beers at quadruple the price.

The only way I can think of to make the owners pay attention is for people to: (1) refuse to enter the game without their own sunblock and (2) ask for a full refund if refused. Finally, contact an attorney if the stadium refuses both requests. The above takes time, energy, and money, so I don't think many people will do it. However, a little bad publicity for the stadium and team may go a long way. The pocketbook is always the weakest point.

'Tis why I miss drive-ins. You could bring your own popcorn. While it's easy to sneak in your own candy, sneaking in a big bag of popcorn is more difficult.

I agree with RD. If enough people make a fuss and refuse to enter or even attend, management will cave.

I would refuse to enter, especially with kids, and let them know in no uncertain terms what they could do with their overpriced little bottles.
