Hysteric Anti Americans At The Chicago Tribune

Paper actually has opinion piece called "Repeal the 2nd amendment"

"No, we don't suppose that's going to happen any time soon. But it should."

"It should come as no surprise the corporate media is engaged in a propaganda campaign to convince you that the Second Amendment should be repealed. After all, we no longer have small, independent newspapers published by people who understand the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, but rather huge corporate combines owned by the very same globalist interests that have hijacked the government. It will be impossible for them to impose their transnational corporate plan — in other words, fascist plan, as Mussolini understood that corporatism and fascism are inseparable — on the whole of humanity so long as an appreciable minority remain armed. That’s what the corporate media jihad against the Constitution is all about — convincing you that “gun crime” is out of control, people who own guns are redneck nut cases, guns are for hunting only, the Second Amendment is a myth (or at best an editorial mistake), and it is in our best interest to relinquish responsibility for our own protection, our duty, and embrace government."

That is some scary shit.

As the late Charlton Heston said: "Out of my cold, dead hands!" That's one area where I disagree with the left on--gun control. All of these control mechanisms haven't done a thing to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. In fact, in D.C., after imposing the ban on private handgun ownership, crime rose 30%.

If people don't like guns, don't own one. But do not impose your will on others by saying one can't own/shouldn't own/or must endure severe restrictions. It's basic common sense. If you own, be responsible. If you have children in the home, keep it securely locked away and unloaded, bullets stored in a separate, also locked, place. If you are irresponsible in a way that allows others to be harmed, then you lose the right to own.

My dad had a handgun. He used to clean it now and then in front of me. I never knew where it was stored, I knew never to go looking for it. He was open about having it and clear it was for adults only. Period. End of discussion.

All of that being said, I long to live in a world where guns are only used for sport. I'm not altogether comfortable being around guns. But I support people's right to own and carry in so long as they don't threaten me or others in any way with one. If so, you lost the right to own.

We are living in scary times, and that's exactly what the second amendment is all about.
The left/right brouhaha about guns is just another phony, manufactured lie courtesy of the people who want us to be at each others' throats. I'm as progressive-liberal as the next guy but own lots of weapons and have a license to carry. All my friends are of the same political persuasion and carry and shoot all the time.
The decision to take responsibility for your own safety and well being, and that of your family and friends, has absolutely nothing to do whatsoever with political philosophy.
That "cold dead hands" business isn't just rhetoric, isn't grandstanding, and I mean it when I say nobody is ever going to disarm me and a growing number of concerned and determined citizens in the face of egregious fascist thuggery and societal disintegration.
