US Whips Up "Torture Room", Points To Usual Bogeymen

Torture Center Found in Northern Iraq

"U.S. soldiers found mass graves north of Baghdad next to a torture center where chains were attached to blood-spattered walls and a metal bed frame was still connected to an electrical shock system, the military said Thursday."

The propaganda machine at work. Whenever the military feels the need to justify their presence in Iraq we get lurid tales like this or are handed photos of Iranian weapons with english writing on them to bolster the Big Lie. What they want us to believe is that we and the valiant, struggling Iraqi people are shoulder to shoulder fighting insidious Al Qaeda types who are trying to create mayhem and make sure Iraq remains violent and a failed state.

The truth is that this is old garbage propaganda used since forever to cover up bloody occupations and the struggle by a resistance to end it. There are always some collaborators who side with the foreign forces and they're sure to be waved around to convince the home crowd that the wogs love their masters, but in truth the occupied people have somewhat of an aversion to being subjugated. It's funny how this 'torture room' was supposedly found almost two weeks ago but the story was released a day or so after this headline:

All Iraqi Groups Blame U.S. Invasion for Discord, Study Shows

"Iraqis of all sectarian and ethnic groups believe that the U.S. military invasion is the primary root of the violent differences among them, and see the departure of "occupying forces" as the key to national reconciliation..."

That torture center story goes on to say:

"You know, there's going to be continued spectacular attacks," Hertling said. "We're trying, along with the Iraq army, to protect all the infrastructure of Iraq. These people who are fighting us, who are fighting the Iraqi people, continue to just destroy with no intent to contribute to what Iraq is trying to be."

This statement is ridiculous on it's face, of course, but the military has taken it's cue from the Bushistas and is addicted to lying about anything and everything. Yes those spectacular attacks will continue whenever the spook agencies feel the need for them to pretend Al Qaeda exists. We're to believe indiscriminate slaughter of your own people has always been the tactic of a resistance to get rid of a hated occupation. Sure, you bet. And this spokesflack is pulling that infrastructure compassion out of his ass. By all accounts it still remains in ruins, exemplified by the electricity minister hopeful that if they're lucky the power grid might get to pre invasion levels - by 2011. Amost five years after the country was bombed back into the stone age it still lies in tatters, just the way it's supposed to be.

But this 'torture room' stuff gets trotted out when our masters feel we have to be reminded that it's an ongoing fight against faceless bogeymen and that vulnerable Iraqis (and their oil) would be in terrible jeopardy if we left. And oh yeah, when they feel the need to knock their own little torture story off the front page.
