Documentaries To See

I'm a big fan of documentaries. In the hands of competent filmakers, even some truly arcane stuff can be turned into memorable, even riveting viewing.
There's been some fine work over the past several years - Murderball, Penguins, Mad Hot Ballroom, Born Into Brothels, Word Wars, Spellbound, Grizzly Man.

I'm looking forward to seeing some new ones that are coming out. Aside from Spike Lee's "When the Levees Broke", which is actually now on line and can be seen in it's entirety here, (HBO ordered it removed, rats) some interesting flicks are out there.

This Film Is Not Yet Rated - Kirby Dick's expose of filmakers' battles with the MPAA and their secretive, totalitarian-like movie rating system.

Dixie Chicks: Shut Up and Sing - interesting things happen when you criticize a lying moron.

Living Dolls: The Making of a Child Beauty Queen - inside the subculture of child beauty pageants.

Jesus Camp - molding young minds to be good evangelical xtians is serious business.

Iraq For Sale: The War Profiteers - Robert Greenwald's newest.
