The Way Americans Like Their War

Robert Fisk has a post at counterpunch where he ruminates that Haditha could be the tip of an iceberg.
I would say that's a certainty. Ever since 9/11 we've been told there are no rules to the game any more. We can torture, we can spy on anyone, throw them away without charges, kill them, even when they're innocent. And the scum at the top have incessantly repeated the lie that Iraq = 9/11, so much so that a shocking number of soldiers over there believe it.

"What kind of trauma is now being experienced in Iraq? Just who is doing the mass killing? Who is dumping so many bodies on garbage heaps? After Haditha, we are going to reshape our suspicions."

While I'm referencing good reads, tbogg has The Return of Now Can We Compare It To Viet Nam?

"So let's check out the old Official Quagmire Scorecard™

Unpopular war? Check.

Insurgency that won't go away? Check.

Domino effect? Check.

Media is at fault for losing the war? Check.

Atrocities? Check.

Unpopular President? Check.

Light at the end of the tunnel Secretary of Defense? Check.

Hmmmm... What are we missing? Oh yeah. Blaming the politicians (who got us into this mess) for not letting the military win the war

HR 4752, introduced by rep. charles rangel (NY) in february, calls for a mandatory draft of all 18-42 year olds--male and female....is currently in committee....hopefully it will get stalled and killed. same idiot introduced similar legislation last may (2005) that has since stalled. this "national service act" would require all 18-42 yr olds to register for military or civilian service. duties as to be defined by the president.

if that doesn't make the hair on the back of your neck stand up, i don't know what would.

according to e-mail i received, the house is supposed to convene this tuesday to debate the bill. the time to speak up, write ur reps, is quickly running out.

outrageous......all the lives this would effect if passed. we have the right to know about this and i am spreading it as quickly as i can. google HR 4752 fmi. i can hear the footsteps running to canada already......

"duties as to be defined by the president"

That's too ominous for words.

it sure is! literally made the hair on my neck stand up.

i wrote the local rep. and received a blah blah response--not even addressing this particular bill but instead, referring to another one from 2004 that was "overwhelmingly" defeated.

hopefully this one will have the same fate....
