Cutesy Pie Internet Fascism

"With their big blue blinking eyes and their quirky personal websites, there is no denying the cuteness of the cartoon cops at the front line of China's battle for control of the internet.
The cartoon couple patrol the city's news and discussion websites to scare off anyone who might be tempted to use online anonymity to break China's laws, says Chen Minli, director of the Shenzhen City Public Security Bureau's Internet Surveillance Centre."

These characters follow you around and scroll with you to remind you to, in the words of Ashcroft, "Watch what you say."
And they're openly proud of doing this, crowing that internet use in other societies is equally monitured but the snoops tend to hide. That's true, and come to think of it, why shouldn't the NSA here in this country have their own cartoon to let us know we're being watched?

Maybe this?

Already people are making money selling software to China that lets them surf anonymously. The governments who try this will always be outwitted - freedom is on the march.
