Authoritarian Cultists

"And what I hear, first and foremost, from these Bush [followers] is this, in quite a shrieking tone: "Oh, my God - there are all of these evil people trying to kill us, George Bush is doing what he can to save us, and these liberals don’t even care!!! They’re on their side and they deserve the same fate!!!" It doesn’t even sound like political argument; it sounds like a form of highly emotional mass theater masquerading as political debate. It really sounds like a personality cult. It is impervious to reasoned argument and the only attribute is loyalty to the leader. Whatever it is, it isn’t conservative."

Most people in this country are oblivious to anything other than their immediate personal needs. They're busy with job and family and distracted with sports, consumerism and TV obsessions. They don't want to have to think about weightier matters like, say, freedom and life and death. That ignorati class forms the core of support for the fascists and the vicious system we're finding ourselves in.

And central to that carelessness is an unwavering belief in the goodness and sanctity of BushCo©. They simply cannot do any wrong, their intentions are always pure; to believe anything else is apostasy and will not be tolerated and should be punished. To believe that, even once, creates cognitive dissonance that would ruin their day.

I predict that when the shit hits the fan, this obliviousness will kick in big time, trumping even basic self interest. Cowardice will rule, and little boots and his lackeys will be given free rein by the kool aid drinkers.

thepoorman observes them this way - "The problems in Bush’s America don’t begin and end with the White House. Bush’s America is a culture - a culture of contempt for acheivement based on objective merit and ability, and deferrence to power and privilege. Deferrence bleeding into awe - a culture that accepts that “kiss up, kick down” is not just a good way to get ahead, it’s a positive virtue."

Cheney was overheard saying "Damn, I thought we were hunting peasants!"
